He quit about as much as when an MMA fighter taps out. he must have knew he was only going to get put down again so don’t blame him.
Pretty much how I see it. Yeah he probably could have gotten up, but I'm not even sure the ref would of allowed it to continue even if he had as he was so clearly in distress and I doubt he would of survived much longer and he probably knew it. Yes some fighters will refuse to accept defeat no matter the circumstances but even Duran quit so let's try not to be too critical.
Yeah he quit but at least this way being counted out he didn’t have to stand up and have the ref ask him if he wanted to continue or quit
I'm not going to call Ryan a quitter, but it was very strange how he got up and was able to walk perfectly fine as soon as the referee had counted past 10 and called off the fight. But yeah liver shots hurt like hell.
I think some who wanted him to win are expressing their disappointment. Garcia talked a lot of **** beforehand hence it amplifies the criticism he is receiving. This guy was claiming he would stop Tank in 2 or 3 rounds with his left hook.
I think i'd be inclined to give the same answer as I do in the post you quote. I guess people have always been sad if they feel fooled, but most fighters who are spoken to by press wil aggressively predict their own victory during the build up. It is normal and natural. So while I know and understand there will still be people who are upset that a fighter doesn't do what he said he would do in the build up but it absolutely baffles me.
As you know I am no fan of Garcia but he is not rubbish or anything. He is a good fighter but he was not ready or prepared for Tank. Leaving Eddie Reynoso was a mistake. I am not saying he could have beaten Tank but he could have been better prepared for sure.
I don't know how after talking so much **** in years prior they don't feel any bit ashamed with that kind of effort & result, The Media loves asking the obvious ego enhancing questions for their Channels but never call out the fighter for his BS, ironic.
It was a bit of a bust. I get that people are disappointed. But all this "generational" bs was just that. He is partly a victim of the ridiculous hype that surrounded this fight. Joke. Cordina-Rhak was always going to be the fight of the night.
Exactly it just increases the embracement for Garcia, all those countless number of video's full of false promises.
Fogger, I saw it the same way you did. Clearly these guys have never taken a left hook to the liver or felt that explosion of bile in your system that goes along with it. It's a debilitating effect. Twice he tried to move which was the grimace you mentioned. He didn't quit, the body just wouldn't respond. I'm not disappointed in him. He was in there with a great fighter and was only a handful of points behind up to that point. However, I will be disappointed if he doesn't get back on that bike, refine his skills and get back in there. That's the mark of a champion.
This is an excellent capture of the body shot that stopped the fight. Looks like Tank damaged his rib cage: This content is protected
