I never really like Calzaghe or his fighting style, but I must admit he did prove me wrong a couple of times. He's a really good fighter and deserves credit for leaving the game on a high note...Not the highest note, because there are still alot of good fights to be made. Fights that could've possibly made him a great fighter. Never the less, he deserve credit for some of his recent wins.

Yeah, most latino fighters never give praise to another when they are better than another latino who fought in that weight class in another era.
    I can tell you how a calzaghe/Torres fight would've gone. Calzaghe 118-
    to torres 110.

Because they're mad that white fighters are kicking their black or latino
    fighters asses.

Calzaghe would be worshipped like PBF if he was American, FACT.

I see him for what he was. Had a careful solid career, 3-4 top fights, too many bums. Scrapes inside the top 5 Brits all tme maybe, Top 10 Brits def.

Like PBF the hunger isn't there anymore.

I've always rooted for calz in all his fights. If ever he is being criticized right for the way he chose his opponents in the late stage of his career then that's not his problem. Fact remains that he is an undefeated champ who left boxing at the top of his game. That is assuming he doesn't unretire later and lose.

another not so cleverly disguised diss thread.

    we learned...

you don't like him - Joe.
you don't like the way he fights
you think its a strike against him to leave when there were, what you feel "good fights to be made"
you don't think he is a great fighter

I'm not dissing at all...I do beleive he was the best in his division...personally I thought the Chad Dawson fight would be his most challenging fight if it were to happen. The only time I rooted for him was against Hopkins...and he deserve alot of credit for beating him.

  8. You're dreaming.

Joe has recently fought BHOP and RJJ in the US and you still can't find ten US sport fans that know who is he or were impressed by his ability (and phenomenal talent is respected, admired, and obvious to all no matter where it originates). Honestly.

But I basically agree with the rest of your assessment (regarding his standing in Britain).

Because Pavlik fights one way, you cant put a fighter in the ring with a master like Hopkins if you cant adjust in the ring...With that being said it dont mean that Joe would have beat Pavlik...That is the problem with Calzaghe, you have to talk about what the guys that he fought did, and not about the guys that he fought...

Joe is a good fighter, great Im not sure...Keep in mind he big wins came over Jones 40, Hopkins 43, Kessler who I question (I personally dont think he is that good), Lacy well I think I dont need to say anything eles about that...With that being said, I think that it still took a good fighter to beat all those guys even old and not that good...

Anyone claiming there is no racial dimension to the Calzaghe hate is living in denial.

Kessler is ranked #1 in SMW at the moment, which is a talent heavy division. He should clean up in there if he can get his management to make him the right fights, and i reckon he could have a pretty good crack at light heavy if he's willing to step up.

I think it's more the Brit v Yank thing rather than race.
