Not a GGG 'fan' but Brook fight wasn't even close while it lasted

Lots of hyperbole in here as usual. I've never fallen for the GGG hype, but he whooped the snot out of Brook. Brook was tough and he even managed to back GGG off early on which was surprising; but after GGG stepped on the gas after the 2nd round it was basically a slaughter.

I don't really see the criticism here. I've been a little critical of GGG in the past, but he pretty much did exactly what everyone expected him to do -- he went in there and demolished the guy (hurt him in the first round, apparently broke his eye socket the next few rounds, then went on to pummel him to a stoppage). Canelo went 5 rounds with a china-chinned Amir Khan, and arguably lost 2-3 rounds, so.
I was actually impressed with GGG's performance. He wasn't in there with a bum for once, and he took the guy apart with relentless pressure, and pretty impressive offense / punch selection.

The fight to make is still GGG - Canelo, and honestly I have no idea who wins that. I always thought Canelo had a really good chance bc I see him as the better skilled fighter, but GGG looked scary in there. Canelo needs to step up and fight this guy, they're probably about the same size tbh

I have to agree with you. I don't see what's so wrong with Golovkin's performance with against Brook.

He hurt him bad in the first round. Brooks face looked to be in extreme pain. He keeled over.

Then in the 2nd round he hit GGG with his best shots and Golovkin ate them with ease.

Then Golovkin broke Brooks face. Pummeled him and hurt him. Then Brooks corner threw in the towel during the 5th round so that Kell Brook did not die.

GGG did what he needed to do, and he got the job done.

The criticism stems from the fact that despite Brook being a WW he was GGGs most skilled opponent, and as soon as GGG fought a quality opponent he got leather landed on him like never before. People speculate that had Brook been a true MW with those same skills, he would have possibly hurt and beat Golovkin.

Yeah, I don't know what anyone else was expecting out of him. The most surprising thing for sure was seeing Brook actually back off and bother Golovkin a little bit early on -- that's something to talk about. Other than that though, GGG basically destroyed him. Maybe the story isn't so much about something GGG was lacking, but what we weren't expecting out of Brook. He seems like a big guy for a WW, and maybe someone who's naturally fitted for JMW.

I think it's because us fans have been so conditioned to think about boxing incorrectly.

Amatuer boxing is about scoring and landing more punches than opponent in a literal sense. Whoever does that wins the fight.

Pro boxing is different. Its about hurting your opponent and not getting hurt. Hit and not get hit does not always apply at the pro level.

Basically if you hit your opponent and they cannot absorb the punishment then you can't possibly lose. Brook can land 1000 punches if he wanted to. That means nothing when it comes to the outcome. Because he can't hurt Golovkin and Golovkin can hurt him.

Basically if you destroy your opponent you win.

Brook won two of four off the bat and was competitive in the other half.

Yet he was destroyed. You got to love having power and a chin.

Doesn't matter how many points you can collect on the cards if you get ****ing destroyed. You can't lose if you annihilate the other guy so bad that he can't continue.

Really? I initially thought he won the 2nd, round - but since GGG broke his face in the 2nd It's sort of like he didn't really win any part of that fight. Except respect, he won loads of that.

I love when Fighter A gets criticized for KO'ing Fighter B in less than half the scheduled distance.

    I love it.

You can't go to the extremes on any side.
Golovkin wasn't having a day on the park with Brook, Brook was putting those combinations on Golovkin.
But you can't say that Golovkin was caring about Brook's power, he was walking through him slowly.
Golovkin was too much for Brook, but Brook did it Good, that's it.
