That's some BS right here... Who told you that athletes are selected in those countries? They are free to choose whatever sport they want. It is not North Korea or China where people are forced to do sports even if they don't want to. Lomachenko first practiced dancing, wrestling because his father told him so. The only reason he took up boxing because his father was a boxing coach, otherwise he would have played hockey. Wladimir wanted to go to medical school, but Vitali who was watching kung-fu and kickboxing movies convinced him to take up boxing so they could fight and travel abroad as athletes. Usyk played soccer till he was 15 years old and then he switched to boxing. Shabranskyy started as a kickboxer. I don't even know about any of that type of government run boxing academies that you are talking about in Ukraine. And in rural Russia it can be VERY hard to find a boxing gym. Provodnikov who is from a small Siberian village had to make 1 day train trips to his gym. Only the most dedicated people would do that.

Boxing is not a top 3 sport in any country apart from Cuba. Boxing wasn't even popular at all in Ukraine before Klitschkos. And even now there isn't any Ukrainian boxing promoter apart from K2, there isn't any Ukrainian boxing manager, there are only 185 active Ukrainian pro boxers almost all of them fight abroad, there are just a few boxing cards hosted in Ukraine every year. How come if this sport was so popular like you claim? I don't even think that basketball is that popular in Ukraine, more people play ice hockey. And don't forget wrestling that has rich traditions in that country.

In 30 years, the Ukraine has produced two great pro fighters Klistchko and Klistchko. How many has America produced in 30 years? Now don't get me wrong, the have some good guys and have done a good job with their amateur program, but no better than Cuba which has 1/10 of the functional population, much less money and is boycotted by the most powerful country in the world.

You say Ukraine "only" has 185 pro boxers? Do you know how many Cuba has? NONE! Because Cubans aren't allowed to turn pro.

Again, there are NO pro cards in Cuba because Cubans aren't allowed to turn pro. There are NO pro boxers in Cuba, because Cubans aren't allowed to turn pro.

Cubans are also excellent in all combat sports, and like all ex-Soviet satellites, are good at sports. They have won medals in many sports, particularly Judo, Tae-Kwon Do, Grecco-Roman and Freestyle wrestling and weightlifting. This again, is from an island with 11 million people.

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Olympic_medalists_for_Cuba

The Cuban baseball team has medaled in all five olympics and has done well in the World Series of Baseball against MLB, even with half their team defecting!

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cuba_national_baseball_team

So saying that boxing is a huge priority in Cuba is not true.

And I am NOT EVEN CUBAN!

They are selected. They have every right to say no, but in ex communist countries athletes are selected.

And how long have you lived in North Korea or China?

Who selects them? Surely in every ex-communist country? For your information I am from an ex-communist country and no one has ever selected any of the athletes I know. And not even all ex-communist countries care about sports. Albania has zero Olympic medals for instance. So there you go, talking out of your ass once again.

    As for China:

China is one of the few countries in the world that dedicate and use spare-time sport schools extensively to train and prepare future elite athletes. A spare-time sport school is a boarding school specialized in sport and established to train Olympic hopefuls. Students are selected for their athletic talent. They take academic classes in the morning and engage in rigorous sport training sessions in the afternoon. These sport schools serve as a reserve pool for elite sport teams at the provincial and national levels. Currently, 360,000 students attend about 3,000 sport schools at all levels in the country.

Of the 99,000 athletes in Cuba currently, 19,000 are boxers, including 81 of Olympic competence, even though only 12 make the Olympic team.

Safe to say boxing is a top 3 sport in Cuba given how many boxers they have, and possibly the most popular sport after baseball on that island.
