Maybe alot of people don't know that what postponed the Billy Conn Joe Louis rematch, after Billy Conn's WWII service, was that he broke his hand off of his father in law's head. Greenfield Jimmy Smith, a renowned local tough guy and I believe a former Pittsburgh Pirate was always riding Billy who'd finally had enough. Another Billy Conn story was that his last known streetfight was with a would-be, thirty year old 711 hold-up man whom Billy chased outside and tackled in the parking lot and whom he held pinned to the pavement until the cops showed up. Billy was in his seventies at the time.

A young Oscar De La Hoya was taking liberties in a publicity sparring match with Julio Ceasar Chavez. Chavez got angry & dropped De La Hoya with a strait right hand. quickly ending the sparring match.

Mike McCallum stopped being the most underrated fighter of all-time a year or two after boxing forums became commonplace;)

Dujuan Johnson and Duane Thomas used to go at Hearns in sparring, pushing him back and really roughing him up. Saw this first hand.

If your legacy is that of being 'the most underrated', then you're not underrated:lol:

What ever happened to Mickey Goodwin, Kronk Middleweight. Did he ever get a shot at the title? I remember when he was coming up, pretty good.

And when he and Joe Louis used to meet up years later, Joe would often start the conversation with... 'Your step-father still beating the **** outta you?' :good

Not alot of people know this but the top 5 p4p fighters in the world are; Floyd Mayweather Joe Calzaghe Ricky Hatton Clinton Woods and Amir Khan, in that order.

i was unaware of this fact until the quiz master in the pub quiz told me while reading out the answers, it turns out I was wrong about the boxers on my teams list and equally wrong in getting upset about it

    * 1912 was a rough year for the HW champion of the world. Jack Johnson was driving down a street in Cincinatti when a white housepainter ran up and punched him in the mouth. A few weeks later, Johnson was hanging out of his car window waving to a crowd when a truck sideswiped him and totalled his car and pulled tendons in his back. His fight with Jim Flynn was postponed.

    * Meanwhile, Jim Flynn had hurt more than a few of his sparring partners. He was practicing, not his punches, but his fouling and headbutts. The scum. You can see the results on the film.

    * Johnson had two of his gold teeth knocked out by Jess Willard. He wouldn't spit them out because he didn't want to hear the howling of the white crowd. So he swallowed them.

    * Harry Greb was faithful to his wife and a ("ahem") practicing Catholic.

    * In 1925, Dempsey sparred with Rudolph Valentino. And they were friends

    * Wes Mouzon stopped champion Bob Montgomery in 2 rounds... when he was 17 years old.

    * Duran and Tony Ayala Jr. were close to blows on the street. Lou Duva was there and wet himself.

    * Peter Marciano attends the same Catholic Church that I go to.

    --fun thread!
