Man, Jake never hit the deck, not even for death! He probably sleeps standing up.

"i didnt go down Ray. Couldnt put me down'

Tough as nails. Not very likeable but most a lot of respect for him as a fighter. No idea he was still alive

@ 1965/6 I knew his son slightly he went to the same HS as I did when I was in Miami. I was told by some other kid, don't mention his father...so I didn't. A big kid, 6'2" 200 pounds. He died in an airplane crash.
later having looked at raging bull, I can see part of the reason why he didnt' want him mentioned.

The kid was standing on his own two legs just fine with out any help or hinderence from his father.

Jake murdered an old man in a break and entry and got away with it...so let himself be punished in the ring.
One day the Ghost got in the ring to congradulate him...and he was never quite the same again....That I read.
    The man had not died.

Jake won one fight...and thought he won most of the fights.

One of the toughest fighters ever.

Him and Basilio are still very sharp for their age.

Very true about the movie adaptation, people need to read his biography. It's a bloody good read, but Jake was a very nasty and evil person. He raped his best friends girl friend, for one thing.

Hollywood=bull****. I don't know how Marty Scorsese can overlook all that ****.

He did hit the deck once in 106 fights. Danny Nardico decked him in the 7th round of their fight in 52. According to BoxRec, he boxed over 800+ rounds in his career against some real tough guys. To only hit the deck once is a hell of an achievement considering he fought SRR so many times.

But he was a vile person in real life from what I've read. Maybe he's just too damn mean to die.

Its amazing that a guy who took so many punches and boozed as much as he did is still alive, and seems sharp.
