high-risk - less reward.

Good thing is that lately, HBO is talking up the scene worldwide as it is meant to be.

Yesterday, for example, Kellerman said that Dzinziruk is the no.1 at 154. He also said some time back in time that Pavlik - Abraham is the only fight that matters at 160.

IMO because a lot of americans simply refuse to recognise that boxing has become a world sport and not an american dominated one that has been traditionally the case .

not recognising european fighters is simply burying heads in the sand and pretending they do not exsist.

    also stereotyping.

the horizontal heavy was a phrase that american boxing always used about uk heavys .

    robotic/stiff/eurobum/overprotected/homecooking

simply prejudice and slow to accept that the status quo has changed.

    take sven ottke for example.
this is a fighter who earned about $10,000,000 a year, fought in front of crowds chad dawson needs a whole career to match, and was watched on tv by about the same ammount of people for one fight than watched every single american ppv in 2008 combined toghether.

this was at a time when american supper middles like antwun echolls were earning $20k a fight.

i still beleive some american posters bury there head in the sand with regards american tv current pulling power and think of it like it used to be and not what it has become, especially with regards of how it compares with german boxing .

american tv for the top 0.001 % of boxers is the best place to be, but if you fall below this elite standard then you earn more fighting in europe.

american boxing fans are down to about 1 million in total and the sport in america desperatley needs a shake up with top boxing being taken to the regions and free to air tv showing fights or the vicous circle that it is currently in and the departure of all its big money fighters in 2009 means HBO might pull a lot of its money in 2010 if viewing figures continue to slimp.

its possible that in the long term this might be a good thing if it means taking fights away from casino`s to draw big crowds and local support, which from my following of other american sports i know can happen.
It's a completely different situation. In football, a player is contracted to his club who are contracted to play in their national league. Therefore, if players from a lesser country want to play against the top guys, they HAVE to go and play in that league. Boxing isn't like that, fighters are not constrained by national leagues, they can fight anywhere they want.

The reason UK (and probably other European countries) fighters don't often fight in the United States is simple. The same reason American fighters don't often fight in England, Germany, Australia or wherever. Any fighter is going to prefer to fight in his home country in front of his home fans unless there is a very good reason otherwise. By which I mean a stack of money or the offer of a very big fight. Hatton fights over there a lot because he makes a shed load of cash out of it. Same with Lennox Lewis. For guys like Woods, Witter, Paul Ingle, those sorts of fighters that wouldn't be so. So other than the offer of a very big fight which they can't turn down (Lockett, Jennings etc,...) why would any UK fighter want to fight in the US over their home country and their own fans?

South Americans, Philippinos etc, Africans etc... are a different kettle of fish. They fight in the US for the simple reason that they can make far more money there than they ever could in their (by large) less wealthy home countries. Again, not the case with English, German, Danish, French etc... fighters.
You speak allot of sense my friend. All that matters is the best fights the best and location of the fight is simply a formality. For example, what was the point in Calzaghe fighting Allen Green simply because he was Americas best SMW at the time in 2007 when the next best SMW in the world was Kessler and was in Europe.

no similarities what so ever? Well I don't know... sounds quite exaggerated to me. Is the UK more similar to the US, Africa or Asia then? (well Birmingham has indeed more similarities to Pakistan than to Europe, that's correct...). Of course there are cultural differences, like there are cultural differences between most other european countries too (take Spain and the Netherlands for example), but that doesn't mean it's not a part of Europe.

Anyway, what continent does the UK belong to if not to Europe? And don't start claiming that the UK is a continent in itself, that's just swollen-headed bull****. The britsh empire fell apart over 50 years ago, get over it...

One thing ive said for years is that if the governing bodies were scrapped and it was left to American fight fans, writers, promoters and media to decide who was worthy of,and got title shots.....Euro's would almost NEVER get them.
If it was just one belt per division;apart from the miget classes,it would be Yank vs Yank over and over for the 'world title' about 95% of the time.

It would be a soul destroying waste of time for non Americans.

Because americans can't see over their nose.
Besides the real quality fans know boxers regardless of HBO televising their fights or not.

The only people that say this are narrow-minded "Little Englanders" who have delusions about their ancestry.

There are a hell of a lot of them, though.
