Not Calzaghe bashing - But why do so many people think he's rubbish?

My Q is, how many Super Middleweight champions in the past could have beaten Joe Calzaghe?

Roy Jones Jr. And in a historical context, if we're looking at guys who fought between 160-175 there are a few more.

Like I marvel at your logic?

So what you are trying to say is, Calzaghe didn't knock RJJ out, but Tarver did twice, and Chad twice beat Tarver. So what, therefore he beats Calzaghe?

Styles my friend. Chad dosen't have anything Calzaghe hasn't seen before. Plus if Roy wasn't weight drained he wouldn't of got KO'd twice by Tarver. And Tarver is finished now anyway, and Chad wasn't impressive in his defeating of him.

Either Calzaghe or Hopkins would beat Dawson, and comfortably.

Middleweight, I am sure there's quite a few who could have. At SMW there is no one. 175, different story altogether.

Prime for prime, possibly RJJ, Hopkins if he was to step up to 168, maybe Toney though I don't think so. He'd beat Eubank and Benn, Collins etc.

But I take your point and half agree, in being that a 168 RJJ may very well beat Calzaghe, but it would be very competitive and Joe certainly has a chance.

This is the problem I have. As a Calzaghe fan I will be realistic and say yes, at 168 prime-for-prime, if Jones and Calzaghe were to fight once or a trilogy, RJJ would probably come out on top.

But to say he would 'whup' Joe? Bull****, Calzaghe is a great fighter with speed, stamina, strength, punch resistance and boxing ability. He get's whupped by no-one.

Jones at his best was at 175. His legacy was carved out in that division. He didn't stay at 168 long enough, imo, to warrant nothing to suggest he could beat Calzaghe who made 21 WBO title defenses at the weight.

I disagree. I've posted my reasons why Calzaghe doesn't make it past 6 or 7 with a prime Roy. Unfortunately its like 530 am and I really need some sleep. Find it if you want; I'm going to bed...

His performance at 168 against top 3 P4P'er James Toney was exceptional, though.

Jones at his best was at 168. Saying he was at his best at 175 shows a lack of familiarity with his work.
