Carlos Monzon holds the record for the most title defenses of the middleweight world championship at 14

Bernard Hopkins holds the record for most title defenses of an alphabet title at middleweight

    its not the same

Nor is Calzaghe's title defenses at 168....even though they went on to win the lineal title we cant rewrite history.

IMO these "records" inflate their accomplishments

Bob Fitzsimmons is the only fighter to win the middleweight, lt. hvy and heavyweight title

Roy Jones is my favorite fighter of all time but he never was lineal champion at 160, 175, or heavyweight

But he was the man to beat at 175. And he was ranked as the best P4P at one time.

Of course. And that is why judging eras and finding a way to be consistent is key when comparing fighters from different eras.

Biggest current example here is Wladimir Klitschko. People say he has 16 title defenses in his second title run and is 9 short of tying Joe Louis' record of 25. However, he only won the lineal title at the earliest against Ruslan Chagaev, so that number of 16 is inaccurate.
