I have developed a very bad habit of not clenching my fists on impact. I think it's due to being very tense when I first started training. And after my coach's telling me constantly to relax my shoulders and relax when shadowboxing.

I've had 4 amateur bouts punching like this with a couple of hand injuries and I'm sure this is the cause. I wont be training again at the gym or punching a bag for at least 5 months now but would like to get this sorted before i go back to the gym if possible.

Has anyone had this problem before or does anyone have any tips on how to sort it?

Do you guys clench your fists just before the extent of your punch when shadowboxing or stay totally relaxed?

I had the same problem just work on it and it'll go away in time. The trick I think is keeping yourself loose until the point of impact.

Just shadow box more and keep your hands not clenched but not flapping about either. Just make a nice loose fist.
