Interesting call. I'd push him to great because tho he had a lot of losses he had loads of wins as well and took on anyone anytime. Be interesting to see what others think.

I was looking more for specific cases of 1 definite non ATG beating or giving an outrageous amount of trouble to an ATG.
For example Vernon Forrest and Mosley.
    Norton and Ali.

I do too. He was lineal champ for 4 years or so i believe. Very unsung nowadays and a very complete fighter.

That makes things a lot easier.

    Marvin Hart and Jack Johnson
    Choyinski and Jeffries + Johnson
Fireman Jim Flynn has wins over Dempsey & Langford if I'm not mistakened
    Nicolas Walters and Nonito Donaire
    Ike Quartety and Oscar Delahoya
Michael Watson and Nigel Benn + Chris Eubank x2 if you consider both great
Steve Collins vs Benn + Eubank... Likewise
Golota vs Bowe? Not sure I consider Bowe great though.
    Montell Griffin and James Toney
Timothy Bradley and JMM + Pacquiao

Yeah griffin was a sneaky one. gave Jones trouble too.

JMM is great imo so I don't consider him giving Pacquiao hell to beat candidate

Speaking of Bowe, Tubbs gave him fits

    Holmes vs Carl Williams

Eddie Davis - Michael Spinks springs to mind, although Spinks still got the official nod and when there is only a single encounter you don't know how much to put down to styles and how much to the favoured fighter having an off-night
