Not GREATER, but who's the BETTER fighter: Riddick Bowe or Evander Holyfield?

This question has always kind of bugged me. Holyfield, imo, is clearly a greater fighter than Bowe (and should be ranked higher on an all time list, imo). But I've recently been organising my VHS fights (yes, only JUST realized I can convert them to DVDs  ) and I just watched all three fights consecutively. Now one reason as to why the knockout in the third fight didn't mean AS much, was cause many considered that Holyfield was old and shot at the time. But Holyfield SINCE went on to beat Tyson, reign as king of the heavyweights for a few years, before losing to Lennox, and is STILL fighting today (at 45). So after coming off a knock out win over Ray Mercer, I wouldn't say that Holyfield was that shot at THAT time. (although maybe I'm forgetting something that was happening at the particular time?).

Nonetheless, Bowe CLEARLY won the first fight, and knocked Holy out in the third fight. Now Holy also CLEARLY won the second fight, but it was closer than the first (and an argument can be made that the fan man disrupted the momentum of the fight, as small an argument as this is). With 2-1, does that not PROVE Bowe to be the better fighter (although Holy is the greater fighter)?

And excuse me if the answer seems obvious. :D

Are talking about at the absolute best?

Riddik I think edges Holyfield out. But Riddik could never maintain it.

Bowe had the style to beat Holyfield who traded too much for his own good in their trilogy. So Bowe was better but only head to head.

holyfield when he first moved up to heavy and fought bowe in the first fight was about 205 ? and hit bowe with the kitchen sink but could not put a dent in him because he was simply to light and to small and bowe walked through him.

at the end of da day.. holyfields much smaller then bowe... thats pretty much what determines it... both are skilled in my opinion but... i'd say holyfield's the better fighter.. but 9 times out of ten bowe would win in a fight

Holyfield I have no doubt about it.

Bowe mayve been the better infighter and had more power, but Holyfield had more tools. Bowe could never really throw a good right hand. Holyfield was arguably the best HW specimen there ever was.

Are you talking about on a H2H basis, or on their ability against a range of other fighters?

H2H, Bowe (if fit) holds all the aces.

Against a whole range of opponents? Probably Holy.
