Having re-watched the fight now twice I didn't see a great deal to rave about Ward. After watching the slow motion replays of the head butts, it was a pretty nasty way to go about his business. One of the head butts was pretty nasty and you can see Kessler wince and look to the referee as his skin burst open. I'd like to see any fighter get head butted and cut open like that and still perform 100%. Ive never seen Kessler's face look such a mess - and it was certainly not Ward's power doing it. The referee was extremely weak in my opinion and should have sorted out the clinching, the pushing with the jab and the hit & holding straight away and cleaned the fight up. The referee had no business refereeing a world title fight and allowing that kind of **** to go down. They started from the early rounds - and this ramming himself into Kessler, grabbing and then hitting & holding was chicken. His style is ugly in my book.
Sorry folks, but this will not change the fact that Kessler lost. Everybody's going to have to accept it at some time. The denial can only continue on for so long. For the record, Ward's style is masterful and a work of art in my book.
Ward exposed himself as the fraud he is. Billy-goating mother****er I hope he gets KTFO. :bart :smoke
Ward won, and gave Kessler a pretty good spanking doing it. The rough stuff isn't unusual , but those looking to demean Wards performance focus on it quite keenly. The fact remains that Ward won going away.
Exactly. Kessler knew he wasn't signing up for a tea party. Kessler fans thought that's exactly what he signed up for, beforehand anyway.
i think Ward would have taken it regardless of the butts. he boxed very well, but left himself wide open for the counter when lunging in.
um, as far as im concerned, kessler the so called "greatest SMW in the world" was exposed. you kessler fanboys need to man up and admit your idol was dethroned in brutal fashion, sorry.
thats what happens when you ignore the amount of punches he landed and take full notice of the smal amount of unintentional fouls. your mind is clouded with your hatred for ward and love ofr kessler that you choose not to accept the thrashing ward bestowed upon kessler.
The Boston tea party it was! Not quite the conventional tea party of good manners and gentlemanly behaviour! But, ye Ward was underrated, his tactic, style and quickness. I thought Ward's quickness and slickness would be a problem for Kessler, but I also believed that Kessler would be able to gradually establish a rhythm against him, and start tagging him consistently after the first 3-4 rounds and then wear him down eventually. But this never happened. Ward's slickness, quickness, tactics and the cuts prevented Kessler from imposing his will, style and rhythm. The 'dirty' boxing was only one of the factors that gave Ward the W. I do feel, though, that it would have been a somewhat different fight if the headbutting and the clinches hadn't been there. Would have meant that Kessler could have kept focus more and gradually made his impression on the fight. He often comes on strong in the later rounds. Ward is very good, he has what it takes to become a master of the sport a la Hopkins, I think. But will be interesting against Taylor, who dealt with one of the masters earlier in his career. Btw, Im not sure if Kessler underrated Ward all that much, he did say before the fight that Ward would be his most difficult opponent in the classic, he must have been aware of Ward's talent and Ward's style as matching up badly with his own. I'm not sure Kessler was all that confident of winning, his attitude in the fight made me think that he didn't believe in it much, especially not after the first 4 rounds.
