I think the next fight is where Evander Hopkins will show what he's really made of, as the officials will definitely be watching out for his head movement next time, given the fuss that Kessler made about it and the accompanying outrage from lots of boxing fans. If not, they lay themselves open to all kinds of accusations.
The way rounds two and three line up it looks like we may very well get to see Abraham/Ward in the semi finals. I can't wait for that one. Abraham is not shy about using his head, elbows, and knees. Trust me, he may not win the fight, but AA will put that religious hypocrite's cheating ass in check!
Ward hasn't done himself any favours as referees will be very watchful for use of the head in future fights, plus the excessive holding. Apart from that he looks pretty useful although his lack of power will probably prevent him winning the whole thing
He had enough power to back Kessler up, which is enough to win the tournament, since Kessler has at least a good chin, if not a great one. I don't think there is anyone that he needs to KO to be able to beat them. I don't think Taylor has the mental fortitude to win anymore. His fight with Dirrell will be decided by speed and ring intelligence, not power. Both Froch and Abraham are pretty susceptible to losing on points, particularly against a fast fighter with good angles.
Will you be impressed when he wins the super 6? If you go back and watch it, youll see that kessler is the one doing the majority of the holding. What did you want the ref to do? Take points for accidental headbutts? You book blows.
EXACTLY The dirrel fight will also be determined on balance. This clown also forgets that kessler is probably the 2nd best fighter in the tourney.
WOW! Im not impresed wih Ward either. Hes only won a gold medal, hes undefeated, and now is a world champion at 25 years old. Hmmm...must be a lucky streak.(this is sarcasm people!)
Thread starter: Ward didn't thrown many right hands and his power punches came from the jab (out of the conventional stance) or the straight left (out of the southpaw stance) ... reminds me a bit of Cotto? But he didn't win the fight phsycially ... he won the fight mentally ... fought smart and switched it up when he needed to. Definitely needs to throw more right hands !!
He's good enough to win the tournament but I don't think much of this tournament overall ... if you look at it, this is designed for him to win.
