I haven't watched this fight in years but yeah most feel like he did enough to win. Jersey Joe was such an amazing fighter. Great footwork / movement and counter punching.

The footage of it I've seen isn't enough to make a decision. It was fairly competitive, but Walcott dropping Louis maybe should have secured it.

AFAIK people at the time generally thought it was a robbery, I tend to trust that's accurate.

The point you make about the footage is very important, who has seen the full fight? Possibly the fact that Jersey Joe put up such a great and unexpected fight might have influenced the crowd to get behind him,the clear underdog?
Walcott knocked Louis down twice true, but Wilder knocked Fury down twice and most think Fury won that fight!
Louis in his autobiography, and on TV in the programme," The Way It Was "made no bones about the fact that he thought he won,his trying to leave the ring after the fight, before the result was announced was disgust at his own performance and not a belief that he had lost as is often implied here by a certain poster. If Louis had felt he had lost the fight, he would have been sportsman enough to stay around and congratulate his victor, of that I have no doubt .

I think this (bolded) is a very valid and salient point.

It's honestly the biggest robbery I've ever watched

Well, no... But from what I've read and what I saw in the highlights, it was a clear victory for Walcott. Not only was Walcott knocking him down, but Walcott was also showing superior ring generalship all around

Walcott is a flashy fighter, like Ray Leonard

I take my hat off to you ,You can stated definitively that this was" the biggest robbery you have ever watched," and you have only seen highlights of the fight ! I wonder why on earth you aren't a boxing judge? You could probably hand in your car before the action started!
Nb About a third of the ringside reporters voted for Louis.

Maybe Walcott had asked Santa Claus to be the heavyweight champion for Christmas, but Walcott was naughty that year so he just got a lump of coal in his stocking instead....it's plausible.

Yep, and 2/3rds voted Walcott, as well as almost all newspapers, and Walcott seemed to be the crowd favorite

I admit the phrasing was poor

Walcott looked good, but he had a tendacy to fail to capitalise on his good work at points, and Louis was still being pretty effective with the jab. A fighter being flashy also tends to make them look better in highlights than the full fight.

Walcott probably deserved it from what I've seen, but I don't think we can judge for sure.
