Ok, so basically I made a highlight video project recently that I call Boxing's Naturals, about four great natural talents (Muhammad Ali, Roy Jones, Pernell Whitaker and Floyd Mayweather) who just have that natural knack for the sport and totally unique style that seems to defy all conventions and works for them. I posted it recently over in the video forum, but I also thought some of the classic posters who might frequent other forums would get a kick out of it and figured I'd repost it here.

So, I hope this doesn't count as spamming or too much shameless self promotion. If there are any forum rules about it just let me know and I'll take it all down.

In any case, here's the original version of the video I've had on youtube for the past few weeks:

    [yt]<object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/f3BWaWnyaPI&hl=en&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/f3BWaWnyaPI&hl=en&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>[/yt]

And here's a new one I just uploaded, after doing some tweaks, adding new footage, more variety, etc.

    [yt]<object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/Gxv22Rd3ViE&hl=en&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/Gxv22Rd3ViE&hl=en&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>[/yt]

    Enjoy!

Wanderer... stop wandering mate... that was a nice expose` of classic fighters, classic timing and classic rhythym... Please consider an attempt of another with Louis vs Walcott 1... Walcotts` evasiveness would fit the tune.... until the demise... La Motta vs Dauthuiille final round... and Tszyu vs Judah for extra comic relief....

Wanderer: that was ******* brilliant. Who is the music by? I liked the tune personally, some won't though because that's a matter of personal taste. But you've selected a lot of the right footage and edited and timed it absolutley beautifully.

    A couple of things.

If it could be done without damaging the rythym of the video, some of the Whitaker footage should have bene slowed. As we know, his best stuff is not visible to the naked eye, especially in highlights format. Secondly, it seems a shame to end Ali's contribution to the video with the Liston II KO, given that almost nobody on the board believes it was a reality KO.

Excellent job though. Got any more?

We appreciate being called on as critics and first observers for youtube boxing videos.

I concur that you did a great job... although I admit that had I saw it on youtube w/o an invitation, I'd have moved on the moment the rap started. I really can't stand that stuff... At risk of being biased, I'd encourage you to use instrumentals when doing background music for boxing videos, because rap is divisive.

Call me crazy but the only talking I'm looking for on these types of videos is the kind you can -see-.

Cox's video on Dempsey is perfect and the music makes it -he uses the theme from "300". The music in this one is fantastic too:

I'd encourage you to make the music stronger and more epic. A boxing legend is our Leonidas or Beowulf. If you want to emphasize power, use powerful instrumentals... athleticism or speed, perhaps classical music....Rapping kind of demeans the gravitas of the clips. It's just a bunch of mouthy kids bragging about nothing.

Yea S89, that's a great one, the MW one is good aswell, where it builds up to Hagler-Hearns, i like this Duran one-

Also, the music in the one you have just posted never faiils to make a great highlight reel.

Kinda relevant to a clip of guys like like Ali, Jones, Pea and Mayweather though isn't it? They are the cocky, bragging type.

Agree with the general thrust of your post though.

What i like about the vids the wanderer posted though, is that the words in the music are describing what his initial post is saying 'i can ride my bike with no handle bars' (meaning the guys in the vid have a natural nack for boxing), great imo.

Liston actually called Clay a mouthy kid....! Jones' rapping about himself on the way to the ring hurts his !$?*& legacy in my 'I'm-human-and-prone-to-bias' mind.

I think that Ali has and the rest will grow out of that cocky bravado and aspire to be statues on day. Age has a way of making us want to be more noble....

Personally, I think Jones' film clip to his song "Y'all Must have Forgot" hurts his legacy. Especially the scenes on the boat in that daggy 1991 all-blue-summer-pyjama ensemble and the two disinterested chicks (one of which is white - WTF? :D) by his side. CRIIIIINGEEEE!:barf

I should surely hope so. Though some continue to be asses to this day unfortunately cough* larry holmes, hector camacho cough* ...
