It's astonishing. By all accounts Dawson's people would be open to making the fight, but Green would rather take out the elderly. A chance at a real, legit current #1 but he has the temerity to run like the wind from said opportunity - he automatically secures the title of 'biggest ducker in boxing' by so firmly shutting the door on the possibility. Disappointing, really disappointing - Green seems like a likeable enough character and with a solid KO record you'd think maybe he'd like the opportunity - however slight - of taking Dawson's title and unbeaten record.

 

"Bigger fish" is poor wording - he may as well just have said the truth: we can make more money with other fights. But from Green's point of view, he's at the tail end of boxing career that had seriously stalled and he just hit a jackpot. He's not going to take the worst risk/reward fight available to him.

Fighters alot younger take money over challenge all the time (Mayweather, anyone?). You can't begrudge it to a 36 year old B-level fighter.

The delayed ringwalk is a fair point... you'd think smart trainers would bring mits to the ring and after a certain amount of time went by have their fighter do some light mit-hitting while waiting.

It's a bs tactic but done all the time and obviously some think it works. Taking some steps against it only makes sense.
