I was impressed with the resolve Williams showed in there. Alot of fighters would have gone on their bicycle after the 11th round but he came out and sealed the deal winning the 12th big. He never looked uncomfortable in there despite Margarito landing some big shots. With his height, workrate, and now we can add guile, he's gonna be a handful for anyone at 147.
My point is, when I made that comment I was sure he could beat every WW in the world except PBF (at that particular time). I wasn't overrating him, it's just that you guys were non-believers so it took something like this for you to even consider what was already true. So in essence, he already was the best. You guys just didn't wanna concede to the fact. I've been telling you guys that fire is hot for a long time and you just didn't wanna believe it until you got burned.
All I have to say about this is . . . "You'll be the first person I make an avatar bet with if Cotto-Williams ever comes off." I tell you, some people never believe that fire is hot until they get burned. atsch
I agreed with you and I've been saying it all along myself. I've been watching Paul for a long time and I knew the kid had it. I started watching him right away because he's got the same name as my father in law. Anyway, I've been saying all along that I think Williams will be the guy to put a whooping on Mayweather. He's a good fighter with skills. I'm not in anyway attempting to overrate the kid. I hope people dont see it that way, I just think his style combined with his size will give Mayweather fits. I dont see Paul as being an easy fight for anyone in the welterweight division.
I really don't think that Williams would be able to withstand Cotto's attack. He would make Cotto look bad early but Cotto would connect and do so very hard. Williams would be gasping for air in the second half of the fight and get stopped late IMO
It is time to look pass the flash of PW and look at the essence, I am not easily impressed, but initially PW look accurate and fast, yet his punches had no real zipped, Margo was able to figure him out after the 5th catching his punches with his gloves and was able to go to the body which by the looks of his face he didnpt like, PW hold to much and that cost his the middle rounds....if he does this against Cotto he will get KO brutally by body punches...
Im not too bothered if i win or lose it, im not a cotto fan, just think that cott would deal with Williams without too much pressure. Cotto knows how to cut the ring off and has the skill to deal with the punisher as well as power. Williams punches looked soft, he lost rounds on the inside and did not hit margarito with anything hurtful when on the outside. Margarito was a decent champ but not special, all wind and **** really. He had no idea how to deal with Williams which unfortunetly was not because of williams but because marg did not have the skill to get an elusive guy, marg is slow and cumbersome but decent in the grapple. How much did you have pw winning by? I had it by only two rounds, it was a decent bout but dissapointing, i had hoped that one would come out looking like a decent threat to the top level guys instead of just being another run of the mill champ.
For anyone wanting to quote me read this and you get my point. Cotto would beat paul williams and margarita
Williams employed a great strategy vs. Margartio and showed me some skills I didn't think he had. Williams will obviously give to trouble to any WW out there. This doesn't mean he's unbeatable though. As far as Cotto goes, I'm about 95% sure Arum will not put Cotto in their with Williams this fall. He'll come up with some excuse about how the fight wasn't exciting enough. I don't give Cotto much of a chance against Williams. Style wise, it's a terrible match up for Cotto. Arum knows this, and that's why he was non committal about the two fighting if Williams beat Margarito
Actually I think that if Floyd had to get in and brawl with him he could. Floyd takes he easiest possible road to victory which is why he always does the pop shot and move thing. If he eve had sit and brawl, he would surprise a lot of people. Against Williams, I'd expect Floyd to stay on the inside and use a lot of waist movment instead of using his feet to avoid shots and out land the busier williams
Cotto will get inside and hurt PW, the minute that Cotto get inside and PW fill the power of Cotto is all over....PW, essence was shown after the 5th round when Margo figure him out, again Cotto like to get low real low, forcing PW to fight small, or having the chanve to be call for llegal blow since Cotto be so low he be hitting Cotto behind the head...if you think that a guy that had all the trouble with the shorter Mathysse, who does not hit or dedicate to the body like Cotto, you are nuts....PW has trouble against bulky strong boxers like Cotto....
You and DL seem to make a lot of assumptions. Is PW totaly proven yet? NO Are there any 147lb humans on earth without potentially fatal flaws? NO Are there things about PW we KNOW will give any 147lb human on earth problems? YES Your reasoning just assume all of PWs flaws plays into his opponents strengths. You are not looking at the flip side of that coin. PW is not an easy night for anyone period. Sure he can lose and there is no doubt he will not retire undefeated. But instead of just looking at what you "assume" he isn't realize what he has proven he is. You think Coto and PBF are having wet dreams thinking of fighing a 6'1, busy, fast, strong-willed fighter with whiskers? Think again.
I got osme preatty good evidence for my conclussions: Paul Williams vs. Matthysse, and Cotto v. Pauli Magniggni....please fool!!
