Nothing against Pavlik, but is Calzaghe a wineable fight for him?

Don't get me wrong, i like Pavlik and his recent fight with Taylor, and i'm looking forward to their rematch.

But how much chance does he have against Calzaghe? Calzaghe is bigger, can take Pavlik's best shot, will outwork Pavlik, is more skilled and capable of adapting, more experienced and while he's not a big puncher, i'm not entirely sold on Pavlik's chin either.

I would still like to see Calzaghe take on the winner of Tayler-Pavlik II, but i would rather see him fight Hopkins. Thoughts?

Even if the fight happens shortly after he starches the overrated Taylor again, Calzaghe will still likely be too much for Pavlik. His best bet is to wait a year or two for Calzaghe to get old.

well I think the only way he beats Calzaghe is by catching him with a great shot and hoping Calzaghe cannot take it. Which is a longshot as Calz is hard to hit cleanly, and has a good chin. Otherwise he outboxes Pavlik pretty easily

With all due respect to Pavlik, Calzagne beats him fairly easily IMO. Joe's just too fast & his skills are rare where Kelly's are just basically sound. Kelly relys on his power but he'd need to land it flush against a guy with a proven chin & great defense.

Good point, that is probably also Kessler's best plan. Learn from the fight, develop his left hook a bit more and get some routine on the uppercut while Calzaghe ages. Then beat him in a rematch.

Well we don't know if Pavlik can take the pressure from Calzaghe just as we don't know how Calzaghe will deal with Pavliks power. It's quite easy to underestimate Pavlik as he hasnt built the legacy Joe has. I would be surprised to see it happen anyway. I also don't think Pavlik would be dumb enough to head hunt Calzaghe either. Everyone seems to focus on Pavliks right hand to the head. Let's not forget about the body I'm sure it would be the focus of Kelly. Isn't Woods-Calzaghe in the works??

    Also, Calzaghe is a southpaw.

just watched the kessler fight again as it was shown on the bbc this afternoon.
and i watched pavlik v taylor again the other day.

if calzaghe boxed like he did against kessler, where he kept his punches straight, used angles/head movement /handspeed/boxing abilty /tremondously fast feet forward and defenese, pavlik does not have the same abilty to match him.

size wise pavlik is bigger than calzaghe but skill wise pavlik needs a ko to win and calzaghe once he got his eye in made it nigh on impossible for the fast kessler who throws textbook shots down the pipe to land clean.

calzaghe really only took 2 sets of combos in the whole fight.
    4th and 12th.
then you look at when taylor let his hands go how easy he was able to dictate, just that taylor cannot sustain any action at all for any length of time before he becomes arm weary, something that calzaghe would never be worried about.

pavlik is always dangerous and he will be to the final bell rings but his left jab /right cross is pavlik`s bread and butter and calzaghe just proved he has the skills to negate a fighter with faster feet and faster hands who likes to throw these punches.

Calzaghe-Pavlik is a fight that could very well happen by next summer especially if Pavlik dispatches Taylor once again. I don't think Pavlik will win, but it should bring a big fat paycheck to both men. Right now they are the two biggest names in that weight range.

Let me put it this way Pavlic saved Taylor's life by pushing him off the tracks before the Calzaghe Express Rolled through but sadly enough he may not have gotten off the tracks in time to save himself.
