As I understand it, SMW will have the same landscape if Joe beats Kessler:

    WBO - Calzaghe
    WBC - Calzaghe
    IBF - Bute/Berrio
    WBA - Mundine

Joe will then have to vacate the WBC to avoid the mandatory and fight Sakio Bika in a rematch after he came runner up in the present Contender series. By next summer, we'll have Carl Froch/Brahmer/Inkin fighting for the vacant WBC title, blind Mundine in a comeback fight against a Bolivian taxi driver and Calzaghe threatening to fight big fights but end up landing a fight against Beyer or something.

I really don't understand the WBA system of champion and super champion thoguh so I might be wrong. If Joe beats Kessler, does he become regular WBA champ or WBA super champ?

The best hope for SMW is that Kessler wins anyway.

Then he becomes WBA super champ (the real WBA champ). The regular WBA champ is in reality just a glorified mandatory to the super champ, and the regular/paper champ is not allowed to unify.

Everyone needs to just ignore the belts. Whoever wins this fight is the absolute "UNDISPUTED" SMW champion of the world. :good

******'s to the belts! Everyone knows that Calzaghe is the legitimate champ and if Kessler wins he'll be the champ. Simple really.

I agree 100% with this comment. Mundine, Berrio and Kessler are Alphabet champions. Kessler higher than the rest. Calzaghe is THE World Champion at the weight.

Calzaghe should still have the IBF belt. They stripped him for not fighting Steiglitz who didn't deserve to be the mandatory by a long shot...and no one cared about that fight.
