Agreed. But I think that Froch had the Kessler fight in his mind for an awfully long time basically when it became apparent he wasn't going to fight Calzaghe. I thought that the way he spoke about it was that he wanted to decimate Kessler in a way that would really help his legacy when compared with Calzaghe.

This is what ive been saying from Day one. There seems to be this way that people think theyll be able to exploit the obvious weaknesses in his defense but never seem to be able to despite the level of competition hes fought.

Froch is another example of how a defeat can improve a fighter, which is why we need to stop writing off prospects or untested champs when they have their first loss.

since the kessler fight cobra has worked out that he cant just take the shots and fire back and win the fight that way with heart, steel and firepower alone.....

at the extreme top world level you have to be smarter than that, ala the abraham display.

Here's the thing, AA aint extreme world level. If he trys to box the likes of Ward/Dirrel, he'd be made to look extremely crude. To make any sort of impression on these sort of guys, he'll have to drag them into a war.

He boxed Abraham because Abraham is a very limited fighter , it was an easy decision , Abraham relied on his size and strength advantage @160 to bully opponents and eventually force a KO or stoppage , or against the slightly better ones grind them to a decision , Froch standing there boxing Abraham kinda reminded me of Hatton vs Urango , while he was winning the fight and was superior to Urango it just didnt look that great to watch .

There's no doubt about it , he will have to enagage Jonhson with more than just a 1 - 2 to win that fight , if Froch can box / punch against Johnson he should win a decision by 4 , if he is drawn into a fight which at some point he will be one would have to expect it will be his ability to withdraw take up the center of the ring and pop that jab out that will define the result in this fight .

Froch has always been a good boxer but he loves a tear up....As someone else mentioned it took the Kessler defeat for him to realise that you cant always win like that. (Although I reckon he was unlucky to lose that fight as it could have gone either way)

He will always get drawn into a fight cos he loves it, usually he come's off better though so if Froch just tones it down a bit he can beat anyone.

Dirrell did his best impression of a marathon runner during that fight.

froch will stand and trade with johnson at somepoint theres no way he wont but if he can out box him as well as out brawl him he should win - johnsons rough tuff and battle tested but so is Carl and i don't think he will walk straight back when johnson throws that looping right that he was catching green with

He's doing the right thing by taking some unneeded miles off the clock just as he's getting a big break from sky.
