Say Quarry defeated Thomas and became the WBC champion. So young Mike Tyson had to fight Jerry Quarry for the title instead of Trevor Berbick? Would the result be the same in the same amount of time as it was with Berbick?

Less time. Jerry's chin was for sale at all hours and he had neither the speed or clout to balance that against a speed merchant like Tyson.

Probably, but there would be a slugfest right away and Jerry's solid chin and effective counter-punching could make for an interesting encounter.

Jerry tried both slugging & boxing against Joe Frazier and came out on the short end both times.
Jerry just too small...but goes out on his shield. Tyson by TKO in 4 rds.

Tyson too fast and powerful for Quarry. I would have loved to have seen Quarry against an older Liston circa 68-70, I think he could pull that one off.

As SluggerBrawler pointed out, if quarry can hang in there, counter, and take Tyson in to the second half of the fight, we could see a upset. But quarry tended to take a lot of shots so you have to favour Tyson by early ko.

Good thread. Quarry was very tough and very talented. I dont see him being ko d early in his prime. He goes the distance unless he cuts. Tyson was not relentless Smokin' Joe who loved a firefight. Mike liked one-way fights. Did not like being hit hard when opponent had great heart. So who knows, maybe Quarry exposes Tysons lack of determination in tough fights in 86. Jees Tillis went the distance . And he was way shot. Maybe upset special. Quarry was a "FIGHTER" there was no quit in Jerry. As for Mike, wellll..........

I love Quarry. He was a talented fighter, and a true warrior. Regrettably, Tyson would be the worst possible matchup for him. I doubt Jerry makes it past round 3.

Quarry would last a lot longer than 2 rounds but would be stopped either by mercy stoppage or on cuts by about the 6th round.

Berbick was pushing tyson back but got knocked out.

Biggs Tubbs and Tucker all won the first round against tyson

Bruno rocked tyson in the first round

Pinklon thomas won every round after the first round and was quite frankly schooling tyson in rounds 2-5 before he got knocked out

Tyson was trying to win until the end against douglas despite being outclassed.

He showed plenty of heart and chin against ruddock, coming back with hard punches every time he got rocked.

Botha was dominating tyson before he got knocked out

The last thing he did right before he got finished off against Holyfield Lewis and danny williams is throw a home run right hand to try to turn it around.
He could easily have just laid down or quit because of the cuts

Holyfield said repeatedly in interviews that tyson never hit him with any of his big bombs and that he knew he could finish him off because tyson was putting it all on the line instead of holding in the 10th round. Source:

    Starting at 13:58

Lewis was shocked at how many hard punches tyson took.

The guy was a disturbed individual, pretty much a nutcase and we can argue about the legitimacy of his post prison career but your post is just agenda driven nonsense.
