Just re-watched Ayres vs Rigby. Pure and Simple the fight was a war and a class war at that. It made me think about the early part of the last decade. When we had Shaka (Ayres) Vanzie and Dunne and Schwer (Plus Rigby,Earl & Steve Murray). Ok the lightweight division of now isn't that stacked but i was thinking who would win if all these lads were around at the same time who would be top dog now domestically?? So we would have John Murray Kevin Mitchell Billy Schwer Bobby Vanzie Mickey Ayres Colin Dunne. They all meet each other (i know some met for real but go Prime for Prime) Fighter with most points wins (Be interesting to see who wins overall on each persons posts) Personally i feel the Naughty's Lightweights are in different class to our current crop who we speak so high of. 3pts for a KO/TKO 2pts for a Pts Win 1pt for a Draw Each Fighter must fight each other. Cheers Kos :good I been searching to see Dunne vs Schwer and ain't found it yet!..Them two met late on in careers. Good fight...it be nice to see it again...i think if i remember correctly it was close.
Tricky one this time of night mate. I'm tempted to "cook" my results to get a Schwer win because he was the best fighter IMHO...;O)
Yeah Billy was a class act. Dunne lived up to nickname though...Dynamo...didn't stop working. It's a tough one...personally i don't see Mitchell or Murray coming near top at all. Mid table :think

There is quite a lack of 90's/early 00's domestic fights on Youtube. People who haven't got footage of these fighters or seen them in the past will find it hard to do this tourney. There's like 1 Vanzie fight, 1 Schwer fight, 0 Dunne fights etc.
yeah that's a shame. i didn't realise that although there a plenty of people on here who must of watched them guys it wasn't that long ago. If not then it looks like this thread could go down the drain very very quickly...
I personally think you're being a bit harsh on Vanzie, but I understand why he is there. His lackadaisical, but flashy, style could make people see him high up, or as you put him, right at the bottom :yep:good
I know, I think his career set is like 9 disks long - same with Ayers I'm just glad I have a little bit of footage of these guys already :yep
Probably mate, I;m open to 5 and 6 being switched (after that I'm sticking to my guns!!!). Vanzies problem would that all the other guys in the list are fairly solid technically, I'm not sure how much he would get away with in fights against them.
Good list Gaz.:good I would just move Vanzie into 4th and drop Mitchell and Murray down one place each. As an aside, how good was Stevie Johnston when he brought his A-game? He absolutely tooled Schwer when they fought, and I think Billy was deffo a World title level type fighter in his prime (it was a really hard division back then though).
1) Schwer 2) Ayers (beats Dunne to 2nd via head to head win) 3) Dunne 4) Vanzie 5) Murray 6) Mitchell Schwer wins for me. He could mix it with the best of them. I think 2nd place would be a tight battle between Ayres and Dunne. I feel Ayres would beat Dunne prime for prime. They did meet early in Dunne's career and Shaka won. Dunne workrate would be far to much for Mitchell and i think him and Murray would be a fantastic fight with Dunne prevailing. Vanzie was a very awkward hard hitting champion who imo was robbed twice against Earl. He would cause Murray and Mitchell trouble and i think Murray vs Mitchell would be a tight contest but i think Murray would beat Mitchell. I think his constant pressure would be to much. The Prescott wins sugar coats over a lot of vulnerabilities in Mitchell's game. Basically it looks like the current breed of Lightweights would struggle with that fine batch we had in the early part of last decade. Would of made for fun viewing. Shame that it looks like most don't know a lot about Schwer and Dunne. If you don't i'd advise you to go buy some dvd's of both. Very Good Fighters.
I was a kid when Stevie beat Billy. Wembley Arena on a Monday night....i knew Billy wouldn't win...Stevie was a class act and i read a lot about him but did not expect him to toy with Billy like he did. Billy had world class ability but Stevie was on another level. Billy came at a bad time...most other era's and he would of picked up a strap with ease imo.
