by Hoodstripes Entertainment: On hearing the news of European champion Paul McCloskeys promoter Barry Hearn turning down Amir Khans financial offer. International Boxing Federation (IBF) World ranked and IBO International champion Ashley Treasure Theophane made it known he was willing to step up to the plate if Khan is looking for a British opponent. There is no British 140 to 147lb who has fought and beaten the opponents I have except for Amir himself. I have beaten World number three and USBA champion Delvin Rodriguez who challenged for a World title in 2009 and former World champion Demarcus Chop chop Corley. I am proven World class not a European fighter trying to step up to Amirs level. Theophane has a point as McCloskey, Brook and Hatton are yet to beat any World level fighters even though they have high World rankings. Demarcus Corley gave Amir Khan challenger Marcos Maidana trouble last August before Amir Khan struggled to beat Maidana himself in his last fight. Theophane was IBF World number four after beating USBA champion Delvin Rodriguez. Theophane went on to say If Dmitriy Salita and Paul McCloskey are good enough opponents for Amir Khan, so am I. Theophane has helped out Salita and McCloskey in their training camps in the past so knows both fighters well. Theophane is due to have a keep busy fight on Saturday 19th February against WBC World number 17 Lenny Daws who at 32 years old is hoping to gatecrash the World Top 10. Theophane finished off our phone conversation by saying If Amir cant get Peterson, McCloskey or Prescott in the ring. I am available for his April date"
i watched theopane on espn and i wasn't that impressed. he should just keep his mind on daws and make sure he doesn't slip up in that fight, if he does then he can forget big fights for a while after.
This is exactly the point. If you take the **** with good fighters you end up with a fight like this. This is the type of fighter that will accept ****.
Ash won't accept a shite offer either. He turned down Brook for that very reason. As for 'keeping busy' with the Daws fight, Ash wholeheartedly believes he is a few levels above Daws. I think Ashley will stop Daws late, and he is right he is as suitable an opponent as either McCloskey or Salita. He has mixed in decent company at welterweight. He beat a fresher version of Corley easier than Maidana,
Theophane honestly beleives he is above British level and its hard to tell having never properly competed there as he has fought all over the world and got a few decent names on his resume but i would prefer the McClosky fight
He ain't helping himself at all the lad. First he's gonna drop the British title even if he wins it. Now it's a stay busy fight.....I hope Lenny makes him eat his words. British title fights ain't and never will be ''stay busy'' fights. He should have bit more respect for the title as well as Lenny.
i suppose he can't be blamed for trying to get a bigger payday, but khans team ain't intrested in him, i think daws beats him points anyway in a hard fight.:good
Khan should prove if he can improve from the Maidana fight by fighting Edwin Valero. There's not been much talk of him lately, but he was fighting at 135 last time out against Tony Demarco. Can't see 140 being that big of a stretch for him.
Most thought he lost to Delvin, although I thought he did beat Garcia, which would of been a good win.
Hope so mate. I agree he looking for a bigger payday but he chooses the wrong way of putting things. British titles ain't friendly warm up bouts. Daws is far from a joke. He will drag you into trenches with fundamentally sound boxing and high workrate. He may of fought bigger names but he's very patchy and this is far from a gimme....I been in same gym as a kid with Lenny. Guy is truly dedicated to this sport..
Theophane has next to no chance of getting a fight with Amir Khan so this is a non-starter. And I agree that Lenny Daws is hardly a 'stay busy' fight for someone like Theo.
