Lopez tried to ruin the reputations of two refs and possibly cause them their livelyhood.

Lopez embarrassed Puerto Rico boxing by acting like a moron, but also by accusing it of incompetence.

Lopez gave boxing yet another black eye with his unprofessionalism.

Lopez SHOULD be held accountable for his actions that came in the form of empty accusations.

What he said was dumb but he doesn´t deserve a suspension. He just lost a fight and got punched in the head for several rounds did you really expect him to say something intelligent after the fight?

Is this the same organization that stripped Peterson after he beat Khan and handed the title back to Khan?

Then blame it on the conservative media. They are the ones who want to control what people say and do.

    WTF!
You telling me Ortiz admitted he wanted to brake Floyd nose whit his head and nothing happened to him and Juanma spoke what he felt and he gets suspended this is crazy, what ever happened to freedom of speech.
What he said was stupid but who are we to judge him on what he felt.

It is a justifiable suspension, IMO. He challenged the integrity of the match. Now, if the fight had happened in Germany or Texas he might have a point, but in this case he made false accusations which undermine the credibility of boxing.

A year is a bit much, though. I would be fine with six months.

Emotion and slander are two different things.

Right but I guess the argument is that fighters who suffer significant head injuries during a fight should be examined by a doctor before being interviewed and I think it's a valid point. He used Ortiz as another example (post-Maidana) where Vic claims to not remember the interview and it remains something that he still has to defend.

I don't think it's right to completely place the blame on Gray/Showtime but hopefully this incident will force the networks to review their current practice and adjust accordingly. Juanma was clearly out of line and should be held accountable but I feel that his apology the next day was sufficient and he should be cleared of any future ramifications. The referee is acting like a douche for not accepting the apology and moving on IMO.

Imagine sticking a microphone in the face of a quarterback after being concussed from a hard hit.... I think that sometimes fighters need to be protected from situations which could bring them harm, in and out of the ring, and this is one of those situations.

I don't think the sanctioning bodies should be regulating this kind of behavior anyway. The only person Lopez really hurt was himself because not a single person on earth would have believed his theory, but it sure made him look bad. I think that Aramini has the right read of this situation - Lopez didn't know what the **** he was saying because if he had seen his own fight he would have been embarrassed to hear the interview.

I do think it would have been OK for the WBO to tell him that he's not welcome to fight for their title anymore, but to call it a suspension is to say that they are exerting control over Lopez that they shouldn't have. That shouldn't be their job.

If the WBO was a credible organization, which it is not, they should have stood by their referee, told Lopez that he wasn't welcome to fight for their title if he can't respect the organization and its officials, and then accepted his apology when he made it.

Ortiz did a leaping headbutt, then admitted he tried to break Floyd's nose.. Then went on to say he'd do the **** again if he was in the same situation.. And he got, nothing done to him? I understand his comments were hurtful, but anyone with half a brain knew he was talking out his ass and those comments made nobody second guess the ref. Boxing politics...

The crazy part about this suspension is that Juanma got suspended not the REAL violators. They want to suspend him for his comments after being battered and KTFO while the REAL travesty gets ignored. According to those crooked judges Juanma was RIGHT!

Boxing may not be dead, but WTF is this?!? They damn sure aren't gaining fans with this BS!

Gambling in sports is a very touchy subject and you guys know this. Even if a damn ping pong player accused a ref or judge of corruption they would get disciplined. He knew exactly what he was saying, many men have been knocked out before and not gone on record with that kind of BS. Jim Grey even gave him chances to change his tune but he didn't. He was probably (notice that I used the word probably since I don't have facts) upset that he lost a bet on himself, he was up on the cards after all, but that is all just speculation. I would either suspend him (which they did) or force him to fight Salido ten times in a row.
