Calzaghe has been critisized incredibly here, just because the way he throws his punches, they look like a slap allright, but looks can be deceiving, now nobody had ever seen lacy like that before he look a complete mess, that was a beatdown, now you don't get to look like that getting slap, also joe hurt kessler a few times to the body and kessler is a big supermiddleweight, now if calzaghe didn't have any punching power hopkins wouldn't be on his bicycle the whole night so there's some power there, is just the way it looks, joe over right hand comes from a diferent angle than most traditional boxers are thought, and when he throws combinations they are thrown very compact making it look like theres no force whatsoever but in reality they are going to do damage in acumulation, look at calzaghe ko ratio and you'll see you don't get that many ko slapping people around.

he had very good KO power but that is gone now. he does not sit down in his punches anymore he just flicks them out.

some he puts power behind but they are only if he has the fighter hurt or can see that he could finish the fight

he didn't have the stamina like in the taylor fight to go after him i think he belived he won enough early round plus the knock down to get the decision.i'm not saying it was a smart plan but he defenitly wasn't worried about calzaghes b*tch slaps

you're talking about a war-torn 43-year old boxer here. even if calzaghe's punches are not that strong, they will still be enough to bother the old hopkins. but hopkins was never even hurt or staggered during that fight and he took the best punches of calzaghe. calzaghe clearly doesn't have elite punching power. it may be enough to KO B, C, D-level opponents thus his high KO ratio is suspect just like in the case of valero.

a younger hopkins would've waded in there the whole time, taking calzaghe's punches w/o blinking and delivering his more powerful punches to calzaghe's suspect chin.

Calzaghe is almost 37 himself, hes lost his speed already, its nowhere near what is was 4 or 5 fights ago.

but a younger jc would have put more power into his punches and instead of 1 in 20 being a power punch everyone was thrown with venom

Joe Calzaghes' damage is done by his work rate and sheer volume of punches. He messed up Lacy bad because he landed a shitload of punches. Hopkins didn't have a mark on him. Calzaghe can punch hard if he sits down on it but he doesn't and uses his volume to do the damage.

true hopkins was staying away from those ameuter point punches.which in fact may have hurt him do to all the movement.he would've been better served fighting in the pocket mayweather and james toney style he wouldve conserved alot more energy but no way am i saying calzaghe is a bum//but hopkins is a better fighter

Calzaghe has minimal power, even when he was younger, the fighters he was knocking out were C+ at best, even the lightest punching fighters out there got some knockouts against limmited competition. Calzaghe never knocked out or even stopped a top class oppenent, not even a B class oppenent, unless you want to throw manfredo in there, lol.

the fight was boring and i wasnt impressed at all by any of them,B-hop is old and did enough hanging for 12 rds,he could had walked away with the decision.Calzaghe reminds me of my sister punching when was a little girl and got mad.
If calzaghe fought the b-hop who beat Tito in 2001,then the fight would 'd been more interesting.
I dont dislike any of them, just they didnt bring any excitement to the table.
