nah. calzaghe even when he was younger didn't prove he had elite punching power with the low level of opposition he faced. the best fighters he KO'd were B-level opponents at best. kessler was probably A-level but not elite and he was able to take calzaghe's punches.

A younger Hopkins facing a younger Calzaghe with healthy hands would have lost more handily than he did on Sat. night.. Every Calz. detractor brings up younger Hopkins but never a Calz. with healthy hands. It goes both ways.

kessler and lacy aren't elite fighters... calzaghe doesn't have elite punching power but it was enough to bother them and KO his lower level opposition. like i said, calzaghe's power is enough to KD or KO B, C, D-level opposition but certainly not A-level, much less elite opponents.

Calzaghe, couldnt punch out a whole in a piece of paper, let alone an elite fighter, name one fighter he knocked out that was B class or better? You cant, because he never knockout anyone worth a ****, not even in his so called prime, when he was defending the WBO belt, fighting guys who just came out of the local pub in Wales.

You do realize that Hopkins coming out party was when he was 36 years old? So in that regards they are quite similar. Thing is, Calzaghe had the big promoter and financial backing to get the big fights back then, Hopkins didn't.

The punches aren't really slaps, his hands are closed. But, they are thrown almost from the elbow, instead of the shoulder, giving them a slapping motion. Calzaghe used to be able to punch, just look at how ****ed Byron Mitchell looked!
