Now is the time for Hatton to stay in shape and healthy

Ricky's not stupid so I for one think he will realise that if he does over-indulge this time, he's now being trained by a guy who will probably just walk away if he doesn't show some sort of discipline.

Mayweather snr has advised Ricky to give up his way too indulgent lifestyle of unhealthy food, alcohol, etc. Its entirely up to Ricky if he does this or not.

Ricky showed improvement last night so signs are that all has gone well with Floyd snr so far. If the fighter is getting better, why would he do something that could end their relationship? Floyd snr won't mess around or waste time!

Will he be their protector when they say stupid **** to the locals and get into fights they can't handle?

Well, of course we can't take away anything - The Ring championship, unification, titles in 2 divisions, beating reigning champs in Tszyu, Maussa, Collazo, Urango and Malignaggi...

But if he looked good vs. Paulie, how would've he looked had he stayed in shape after the Mayweather and Lazcano fights?

    IMO much better...

BTW Paulie can take a punch. Too bad he doesn't have one. He's an entertaining figure.

Floyd Sr. on Hatton's drinking habits:

"It's something I'm very concerned about. I spoke to him about that and I talked to him again. I told him 'you want to beat these guys, man, you want to continue to beat these guys like Oscar De La Hoya and Floyd Mayweather Jr? You can forget about whupping those kind of guys if you're going to continue that kind of life, drinking and Ricky Fatton and all that'. That's not going to work right here in the United States.

It's very simple. He needs to do this to save his career, however much time he has left - it might be two or three years, but the less he gets into [drinking alcohol] the longer his career is going to last. Alcohol or liquor alone and eating bad, he's got to be leaving that stuff alone.

I can't read his mind but he seemed like he was kind of considering it when I told him he wasn't going to be beating no Oscar or Floyd or anyone like that while he was doing this. He seemed sincere, but who knows?"

Hatton is still one of the very best Jr. Welters in boxing in my honest opinion. He still seems to be in great shape and his work rate is as good as it ever was. He does however need to prove himself against a markee opponent while he's still young enough to do so. Saturday's performance, though admirable, came against a one dimensional opponent with no power and who fought the wrong type of fight besides.

A good post, and I agree. If Hatton does in fact have the lifestyle between fights that some suggest, then there is no doubt it will catch up with him at somepoint in a major way, in fact, even now, if he cut out the alcohol and over eating between fights he would add 10% to his performance.

I didnt see much change in his game during this fight.

I dont really know what Floyd has brought to the table so far.

Hatton has always had great stamina and a fantastic work rate.

The only real change i saw on saturday was a lack of the hard body punching that has worked so well for him in the past. Other than that it was the same old Ricky Hatton. A great fighter.

Malignaggi fought a very poor fight and didnt have the power to keep Ricky off.

Does anyone know how much Ricky weighs these days?

In a BS interview his father hinted that Hatton is looking for a 3 months training camp for the May PacMan fight and they'll sit down with Mayweather Sr. in January to discuss the details, which sounds good. The sooner they open camp the better for Ricky's shape, although they better not overtrain, simply focus on the technical stuff in the first few weeks, then the real hard work can start.

But how many pounds did Ricky put on in the last few weeks?
