posted quite a few comments on youtube sites predicting the fight, and was ridiculed
on the rbr post on this forum, i said

this was a sweet victory

 

A forum member on "Mendoza" writes under their profile picture "Hrgovic = next HW world champion". He predicted this about 10 years ago.

 

I was hoping Hrgovic would win but no, I certainly didn't think he would.

The closest I came to backing him was to have a bet on either fighter to win in rounds 1-6 and even that lost

 

I said it was an either-way fight and openly questioned what would happen in round 7. I also have an extant thread where I told everyone that Itauma has something wrong with him.

 

My mate put a fiver on Hrgovic to win by stoppage at 10/1....crazy abd downright disrespectful odds to be honest and I thought that if Hrgovic could get to the halfway stage relatively unscathed, then we really dud have a fight on our hands.....

 

I never picked him but always acknowledged he might win

Some were giving him 0 chance which was bonkers

I picked Itauma before the fight

During Round 3 however I had a suspicion that there could be an upset when I Hrgovic start pushing Itauma back.

 

Me.

I thought Hrgovic was going to win easily and Itauma being a wide favorite was cray cray.

The core problem was people reacting wrong to the Dubois loss. Hrgovic fought well and the takeaway should have been Hrgovic could beat anyone at HW. But instead people decided they were going to use the loss to write Hrgovic off as "less than a gatekeeper"(to quote one poster). So there's a real disconnect there.

 

I did. I even wrote a substack about my reasoning for picking him. I thought it was pretty obvious Hrgovic was going to win - it’s the only fight in the last year I’ve put a bet on (I’m usually terrible at predicting fights).

Altho I did pick Hrgovic to win on points. I was surprised how the fight actually went down.
