That a 50% ko percentage has anything to do with what happened in that fight. Martinez normally doesn't fight in a style that produces KO's which would have more to do with the low percentage that his actual punching power. And that was a perfect counter shot. I'm not sure how many fighters even as far up as 175 wouldn't have been ko'ed with that shot. Also, that you used the "expert" so loosely.
In all Fairness Paul Williams never fought anyone with the skills and hand speed of Martinez, Quintana had great success catching Williams coming in much like Martinez, but Martinez has two times more skill. If Williams keeps fighting reckless with 154+lbers he's going to get dropped again if he mixes it up with a skilled fighter. Williams doesn't have a glass jaw but his chin will be permanently damage as well as his confidence in himself after this KO.
KO percentage means nothing when a punch is placed perfectly... In fact accuracy is just as big of a factor as power... Martinez also knocked out Cintron...
it is not weak now, but it is questionable. After a knockout like that anyone's chin would be questionable. But I have seen guys get knocked out with one punch, then take many punches later in fights.
Why not? It's not like waving the fight off will get the doctors in there any faster. Might as well get the KO instead of the TKO.
Glass jaws exist in boxing. Does Williams have one? We'll have to see what happens in his future fights. It sure didn't look rock solid the other night!
Hopkins or Hagler will absorb that punch like it was kiddie slap. However british boxers will definitely get KTFO by that punch no doubt :bbb
