How can you say fighter A is better than fighter B and C if fighter A is still in their first division, is huge for the weight, is facing opposition naturally smaller than them or much naturally smaller, and fighters B and C are campaigning in their second, third or fourth division, have fought lots of world champions bigger or much bigger than them, and are giving away huge physical advantages to fighters much bigger than them?

Fighter A is not doing what fighters B and C are doing

There's a reason why strikers usually finish top scorer of the season and defenders don't. They're doing two different things. Both footballers, yes. But they're doing two completely different things.

Haha.. you only scored 2 goals this season and I scored 30

    Er. I'm a defender and you're a striker

Canelo being called the P4P king was a covert insult to the intellectual capacity of boxing fans.

No one in boxing was doing what he has been doing. Moving up through multiple weight classes, dominating and knocking out Undefeated Champion after Undefeated Champion over the last several years becoming Undisputed at 168. Then showing the ambition to move up even higher to take on who many consider to be the best LHW in world in his prime. Canelo has consistently shown a wide variety of high level skills, great defense, excellent counter punching, body punching, feinting, upper body and head movement, making people miss, ropes mastery, sensational knockouts, uppercuts, showmanship, etc. Canelo has been the one carrying the torch of boxing for years, fighting far more regularly than any of the other P4P fighters. From an activity standpoint and with what he's accomplished, as a big puncher with high level defense, it's a no brainer. No one comes close to how he consistently performs at a high level, how often he fights, who he's been in there against.

Now, he did suffer a set back against Bivol, but none of the other P4P contenders have done anything to deserve the keys to the P4P castle. What has Bud done? He fought ONCE last year, beating Shawn Porter, a good solid fighter but a guy who has lost many fights and who Bud was expected to beat. The year before, he fought ONCE, beating Kell Brook, another guy who he was expected to beat. Compare that to how often Canelo has fought, who he's been in there against, and how much better he's performed. Spence has only fought once since 2020, a win over Ugas a guy who 40 something Pacquiao was expected to beat. None of these guys have fought often enough to deserve P4P #1. Spence has more of an argument but all these guys need to step up and earn the right to be called P4P #1. You need to fight at least twice a year, you need to show that you can beat the best guys out there. That means Bud has to fight Spence and the winner would have an argument. As it stands, they've not put in the work or performed at the level Canelo has been at over many many years. Anyone who isn't a Canelo hater should still have him #1 P4P, recognizing the difficulty of what he just did. Bivol also deserves to be in the P4P conversation now for taking on the best and performing at a very high level.
