I rank the baby faced assassin quite high at junior welter and welter. I'm not sure he did much else although I'll admit to having not watched any fight of his in which he went to the body as that gives me a migraine.

Its also possible he meant de la Hoya.

Yup. I'd say top 70 or so. I have Calzaghe around that arena as well, and it's safe to say Oscar beat better fighters than Joe while taking the chances Joe was unwilling to take, even if he lost a couple.

    Joe would have, too ;)

Oscar always did go after the best he could find, in whatever division he was in...And I agree Oscar beats Joe..

Good well thought out post. :good

I agree with 90% of it. I dont think as highly of Oscar at `140 as you do but he was certainly a force there.

I think at the end of the day Oscar DelaHoya was a very good fighter. Not great but certainly a great star.

I just rewatched DLH vs Forbes.....He looked better than I remembered, I mean, not really good, but for some reason in my memory his performance was bad that night.....first time I rewatched it and wasn´t that good but it was okay, some good combinations in there.

Tito was a very good fighter, quartey was a very good fighter. Oscar was a great fighter. I haven't seen anything like him since, the way he was coming out knocking guys out as fast as Tyson did in his first 15 fights or so. Prime oscar was amazing and was only bested once in his prime, and even that was ultra close and wrong gameplan.

Lets not forget, Shane was on a lil something something as well.

It amazes me that no one takes that into account when assessing Oscar's career.

I think the word Great is overused.

You can make a strong case that Quarty beat DelaHoya in his prime. Oscars performance against Trinidad hurt his legacy whether you scored it for him or not. A great fighter doesnt finish like that. IMO Trinidad and DelaHoya were both very good fighters and huge stars. Good for the game of boxing.

    Just not quite great.

    I think he'd take Hearns.

Seriously, it would take half the fight but Oscar would at some point have Hearns in brawl mode and as Leonard showed round 7 of first fight a left hook would topple the giant.

What the **** was Oscar referring to when he talks about his personal problem?

    It seems no one knows.

I started a thread about it a year or so ago and no one seemed to know what was wrong with his hand or what he was referring to.

I agree about Bhop but Pac and Mayweather are way after his prime. And was Mosley really the better fighter? What was Mosley's greatness outside of DLH? It seems to me Mosley is only Mosley because of DLH.

He fractured his left hand in the first round of the Carr fight. As soon as he wins, he looks out to the crowd, jumps on the ropes, gets off them and taps his hand acting like he broke it. But it was a fracture.
