Think Pernell, Whitaker, Canto, Burley, Benitez, Benton, and Johnson are all in the discussion along with Pep. Then again, so is Mayweather.

The greatest of his generation and shoulder to shoulder with any ATG of any era. He takes a backseat to no one.

IVIayweather cheated. He doesnt belong in any ranking. Should be flogged and imprisoned for making a mockery of boxing.

Top 40. If he rematched Pacquiao and beat a two armed Pac I could see placing him in the top 30. He could fight Golovkin and maybe make the top 20. He could beat Thurman, Khan, Brook, and Bradley, the best of the next generation of welterweights and that would move him up a couple of slots. He could fight Lara or Demetrius Andrade at 154 and prove that he's the boss there as well.

There were a couple of things he could have done, even fighting once or twice a year. He could have fought the best in their primes instead of waiting until they were all old and injured. He could have fought Williams, Tszyu, Margarito, when they were threats instead of the soft touches he chose. He could have fought the top ranked welterweights like Bradley, Thurman, Brook, and Khan instead of Guerrero, Ortiz, Berto, and Maidana. And he could have fought his way up the weight classes through Martinez or Golovkin, Ward, and others.

I'm not sure he is the greatest defensive fighter of all time. I think that honor might be better bestowed on Willie Pep or Pernell Whitaker.

Mayweather's career is not done. He will be back for the Pac rematch next year.
