he lost to Byrd with a shoulder injury and a bad cut against Lennox, but was he ever actually outclassed in a fight?

was it impossible to outbox him?

Just because it didnt happen doesnt mean it would never happen.
I think Ali would pick him apart with his speed vs Vitali's lean back, hands low style.
But I rate Vitali highly in h2h matchups.

No, he was never outclassed. Super close with Lewis, and Lewis was coming on stronger, but far from outclassed.

His age just caught up with him in my opinion. I think a few of today's AJ fans should watch the fight between the two. AJ was lucky to pull that off after getting knocked down, a younger Klitschko would have hurt him badly. It was called the Klitschko era for a reason. I honestly think AJ peaked then.

Vitali and Vlad unfortunately fought in a relatively weak era in heavyweight boxing. Vitali may be one of the best boxers in HW history, but he'll never get credit (I'm not advocating for it either) because he never fought the next best HW in his era (Vlad)

Not in his era. Vitali was tough and skilled with high boxing IQ. You need a real slick guy to outclass him, because he ain't going down without a fight in no brawl.

That, and bar the Byrd fight he really did have the mentality of a warrior, eyes cold as steel and all.

Vitali, not Wlad. But yeah, you're right, a few years earlier and Wlad takes AJ out.

He was never outclassed but he didn't exactly fight stellar opposition. Lewis appeared old and in poor form and they went to war. I'm not knocking Vitali, he was a very good fighter and there weren't many top opponents then.

He was technically outclassed against a fatter Lewis. Vitali landed alot of amatuer puches on Lewis just to score and keep Lewis off his plan but it did not work. Vitali could not execute proper defense to protect his face. Vitali did not do much better than Bruno or Ruddock. TKO6

Nobody outclassed Vitali. Unlike his brother, he was really brave and hard fighter. I think that Lennox got lucky, knew it and escaped a rematch.

I admire his unique brand of ungainly slickness. He had a very high ring IQ, blended attack and defence very smoothly albeit he always looked ungainly, and the way he was able to control his opponents and position them where he wanted them to be with arm punches was very impressive. Obviously he was a very big, physically strong, intimidating and powerful guy with a rock solid chin too.

I think you have the wrong Klitschko here.
