Williams by UD or late stoppage. Throws too many punches for Pavlik, the pace will be too much for Pavlik to endure imo.
that right hand that put taylor out on his feet in the corner was not a lucky or fluke shot, it was standard. i just don't see how anyone thinks pw can get hit w/ those repeatedly and still throw all these punches from all these angles w/o too much regard for whether or not he's leaving himself open. he's never been hit w/ anything like that and its hard to prepare for. i know wwm has said pw does train w/ bigger guys but sparring w/ the headgear on, no matter how intense, cannot prepare you for getting hit by a fight night pav right full of adrenaline.
Let's start a petition to have Smoger ref the fight. I expect the bigger man to win in a mis match. At least that is my hope.
You "workrate" guys really need to look at some punch stats, and then rethink your position. Pavlik has had a number of fights where he would have thrown nearly 1000 punches, or even more, but the poor ******* on the receiving end could not handle it, so the fight ended way before the end of 12. You DO NOT beat Kelly ****ing Pavlik with work rate.
If the fight goes the distance I think Williams volume of punches will probably win it for him but I don't think it will, I think Pavlik will KO him. I don't think Williams punches will have enough force to keep Pavlik off him and the number of punches he throws could leave him more open.
Williams has been successful in this sport primarily because of his natural gifts. At 147 and 154, he towers over his opponents by up to the best part of a foot, and can has arms long enough to hit them from halfway across the ring. Added to that the fact that he throws 100 punches around, trying to fight the guy is like trying to walk through the blades of a windmill. That's not to demean his skills: he has good power, good speed and throws a variety of punches from unpredictable angles. But height, length and work rate are the anchors of his game. Fighters like this face a problem when their physical advantages disappear. Kelly Pavlik is not a 5' 6" runt, but a 6' 3" beast at 160. For the first time in his career, Paul Williams will be fighting someone his own size - or, depending on how you see it - bigger. As well as this, he will be fighting someone who has blown out any of his opponents at MW, many of whom - although not brilliant boxers - were much more durable than Paul Williams will ever be, and have gone on to become tougher-than-average fighters at 168 or 175. However you look at it, Pavlik will be by far the biggest and strongest fighter Williams has ever faced. People fall back on a number of excuses given these facts. They conjure up some mysterious ability to "box and move" that Williams supposedly possesses. Wherever that is, I haven't seen it. Paul Williams fights by standing in range with his arms near his waist, and unloading. He does not move around his opponents or sit back and counter. He is there to be hit. And if there is anyone in the world that does not go into his shell under pressure or shy away from trading bombs, it's KP. Unless Williams grows a new boxing brain between now and December 5, these guys are going to stand and trade, and it doesn't take a genius to see that the natural Middleweight is going to get the best of it. It took a combination of power, strength, footwork, movement and speed that only Bernard Hopkins at his very, very best could have produced to beat Kelly Pavlik. Anybody with a shred of boxing intelligence can see that Pdub has not shown the tools to replicate such a performance. It's possible that e has this ability that he's never used, but I doubt it. The way I see it, both guys are going to come out and do what they've done for most of their careers: throw lots of hard punches. PW is tough, but he's been stunned by Margarito (who doesn't have much one-punch-power); he certainly won't be able to stand up to the kind of sustained bombardment that Pavlik's KO record establishes. For some reason, some people think Williams will stop KP. They must be mental; if a rake-skinny 147-pounder is going to put a beating on a guy who gobbled up Miranda's bombs like beans-on-toast and was battered from pillar to post for 12 rounds by a 185+ lb B-Hop, never even hurt, then Williams is going to have to hit him with the ****ing ring-post to do any damage. This fight will be a war, and Kelly Pavlik's heavy artillery is something leagues above that of Paul Williams. Williams is going to be conclusively destroyed on December 5th - think Hagler/Hearns II. In fact, I would be astonished if the fight goes more than half-way. You'll all be back on here saying how PW was an over-hyped WW who was stepping up out of his weight class, and he'll be left to become a long-reigning and avoided champ at 154. Pavlik by KO, and early.
wow 38 for williams, 35 for pavlik... that´s as close as it gets.. i think pavlik is not really focused.. and i think williams carries the extra pounds well... so williams UD.
OK. Tell me what makes you think that Pavlik is not focused? The rumors that have circulated here? Please...... Humor me. Tell me why he lacks focus after a nice long rest and entering the ring healthier than he has been for a while.
Fair assessment. I still think this is a mis match based on weight. I know someone will now call me out with "will you give Pdub props if..." ****, but I'll have to wait and see the fight before forming a final opinion. This is my 'pre fight' assessment though.
Herm, haven't we learned from the Calzombies how to do this ****??:hey We got to make it seem like Paul Williams is God Damned Godzilla!!
Damned my honesty anyhow. I could be completely wrong. I just don't think so. I don't follow Pdub that close and I'm going mainly off the Winky fight which I have watched twice. I don't care what anyone says, I just don't see him having the hand speed of Taylor so I don't see him being as successful as some seem to think. Again, I could be wrong, but I'll call it like I see it and take my lumps if I'm wrong. Quick edit. Also, people that seem to want to believe every rumor they hear about Pavlik as a reason to pick Pdub..... I try and stick with what I see in the ring.
