Now that Usyk, who's a similar if not smaller size than prime Ali, ended the myth of the giant HWs

Will we see a new era of actual skilled HWs again? That weight 220-230lbs like the golden ages?

The gargantuan HWs got exposed. Usyk has a similar frame to likes of Ali and Holmes who people say wouldn't be able to compete with massive HWs. They had to fight 15 rounds back then too so prime Ali and Holmes would be bigger in this era by 10lbs too.

With the farce of the giant HWs over do we have HWs on the horizon who will be inspired by Usyk's success to make HW boxing great again?

Would love to see it...Smaller heavyweights bring more skill, speed, movement. I can't stand these big oafs...

I will hold my hands up on this. I was one of the one's charting the increasing size of the top fighters in the heavyweight division over the decades. I am quite happy to have been able to watch Usyk clearly demonstrate my data to be incomplete and my hypothesis wrong about the size of the champion that would likely come out on top.

In his mid-30s like HW Usyk was, Ali was in the 220-225 against the likes of Norton (221), Shavers (225), Spinks (224), Frazier TIM (224) etc.

And again they had to prepare for 15 rounds back then. Big difference. Ali had a bigger frame and wouldn't have to prioritize conditioning and cut as much with less rounds and minutes to prepare for. Those last 9-10 minutes are a massive difference where you couldn't risk putting on as much size.

Nothing will change. There are always going to be skilled smaller guys, and lumbering oafs.

But the point is we saw more and more of those unskilled oafs abusing size, physicality the past couple decades.... Will Usyk's success inspire a new gen of HWs like the golden ages?

I mean, I don't think so because people use what they have. Small guys will always try to be faster and more skilled, and there are always going to be the big lumbering goofballs.

This never was a super-heavy's game exclusively. In the 90s, you had Bowe and Lewis on one side, and Tyson and Holy on the other. Wladdy's main rivals were Povetkin, Sultan, Chang and Haye. There has always been room for everyone.

Were Vlad, Vitali, and Lennox not "actually skilled" to you? Is Fury not skilled?

Here's something to consider: Usyk is better than Ali.

The big guys lack the coordination, agility and quickness of guys like usyk and Ali. Ali is still my goat, I think he beats Lewis, the Klitschkos and Fury, AJ. Usyk could go either way.

hes not, though. the more you understand boxing, the clearer that becomes for you. thats why trainers deserve 10% of a purse. because its their job to see those differences in their fighter and his opponents. to know what your fighter is ready for because you understand the skill level and talent you are working with and against.
