Cotto is one of the most overrated fighters of this era. Won his first title that wasn't vacant against foreman. Bad stamina easy to hit fights dumb retreats to the ropes when hurt one handed won't clinch average handspeed.

Overrated or not, he's good enough to scared the **** out of Floyd Mayweather Jr at one time. Mayweather Jr: You see I can't fight Miguel Cotto because he lives in Puerto Rico :deal:patsch.

Cotto is more man than Floyd will ever be. He's fought fighters that Floyd ran away from.

One fighter dared to be great. The other guy is a legend in his own mind.

Putting his teeth through his lip is a little more than busting his lip. The fact Judah was smashing the dude was all you needed to see. It was a KD. Fact is though FMJ didn't eat all of those punches. If Judah hits him like that? FMJ will tag him all day.

Then when we get to speed and footwork? Curtains! :nono

You say this yet I don't ever remember Cotto offering Mayweahter a contract to fight, retirement or not. I know Mayweather offered Arum a contract of 10mil guaranteed after the Judah fight which was turned down.

So we have record of Mayweather offering a fight for Cotto which was turned down, but no record of Cotto offering Mayweather a contract to fight. As a matter of fact that would make 2 offerings for a Cotto fight. One at 140 when he was "to green". And another at 147 when Arum didn't want to guarantee 10mil.

I think Cotto would have beaten Mayweather. People forget just how good he was. How many fighters at the time of his peak had a stronger, better jab? Who was a better body puncher? Who put combinations together as smoothly? Terrific fighter at his peak and he had a style to give Mayweather issues.

It'd be close but I'd bet on Cotto. Either way, neither fighter wins this one easily. In a three fight series, both men would win.

    Shame it didn't happen.

wow. Cotto is a more easier fight than Hatton.. Cotto has never, ever want a piece of Mayweather. Its always team Arum wants two or three more fights before they can be ready for floyd.

from what i remember the mayweathers always spoke highly of cotto and how dangerous a fighter he was. both mayweather sr. and roger spoke of how it was dumb for manny pacquaio to face such a dangerous fighter like cotto because it would put a potential floyd vs manny bout in jeopardy. it was only after manny knocked him out that the allegations of PED's came into question.

Absolutely. Cotto was highly rated at the time, including by the Mayweather's, and Pacquiao's dominant win is what started the accusations. That says something about how good Pacquiao is but also how good Cotto was at the time.

He's still a very good fighter though, and would still give Mayweather problems.
