it was a good win because paulie was regarded at the number 2 in the division by a majority of people before the fight and you cannot get to number 2 without operating at a high level.
Beating the #2 in the division easily is not regarded as a good result??? You must be off your damn head. Any #1, in any division, who takes out the #2 in that fashion has to be pleased, surely??:huh Especially after his recent performances.
I don't think any Americans ever rated him. People were more worried about Hatton's potential failings in this fight than anything Malignaggi can do. Good performances from Hatton, and its easily one of his top 3 wins.
Not so long ago, when Malinaggi went the distance with Cotto, his name was being shouted from the rooftops but now that Hatton stops him he is regarded as being awful and never rated. I am no big fan of Hatton but this really pisses me off....the disrespect that idiots show toward these fighters.....all fighters. Both fighters haven't been looking great in their last few fights (or more) and Hatton has probably looked the worse of the two. Many, many people on here thought that it would be a walkover for Paulie and now they rubbish him. Arseholes.
They were calling paulie the next big thing, he was ranked number 2 by the ring magazine and now its all "oh he was always rubbish"
I've no doubt he's pleased just as he should be after winning any fight. But all Paulie's ever done is lose to Cotto. Granted, he went the distance, but he's not someone I rate highly at all and felt he lost to N'dou. I didn't expect Paulie to win this fight at all and I'm sure I'm not alone. Someone posted previously that a swarming pressure fighter was the ideal style to beat Paulie, McGrain I think, and I agreed. It was a fight he was meant to win, in my eyes. Beating the #2 in the division SHOULD be regarded as a 'good' win, I just feel in this case, given the lack of talent at light welter, it wasn't.
Nobody was calling him the next big thing, you are talking bollocks. If anything the Americans on this site have been rating Bradley higher from what I've seen regardless of the Ring Rankings.
I've not really seen anyone refer to him as the next big thing either. I think 'fairly good' win is ample credit to Hatton. If I were to generalise, I'd say Hatton beating someone of equal standing is a good win and overcoming the odds (Tszyu) is a great win. Nothing complicated about that. Paulie wasn't/isn't as good as Hatton and I don't feel Hatton is anything special either. And I KNOW I'm not alone there.
I think it was a good win but more impressive was the manner in which it was done. Granted Paulie isn't the greatest LW to step into the ring but has been regarded as top three in the division for a while now but Hatton looked finished if you judged him on his last bout. I thought he wasn't going to be around much longer (and maybe he won't be) but he just looked much much better in his whole approach last night. Obviously Floyd's work is doing something but it Hatton must be willing to learn...which he seems to.
Seriously, a whole bunch of yanks were calling paulie the number one pound for pound fighter and he got smashed
