Mayweather's perfection vs. Robinson's speed and athleticism. If you like the bigger guy who is more athletic and has more overall speed. Robinson is your man. If you like the guy who's least likely to make mistakes, the one who is going to have the best game plan. Mayweather is your man. I think the most intresting thing about this bout is if they do the things they like to do in the ring. They might play into each other's hands. Mayweather likes to walk his oppoents down. In reaction to this Robinson will be on his backfoot, where you need to be to beat Mayweather. Another thing Mayweather is great at is fighting off the ropes. No one counters better off them than he dose. However, when Robinson has a guy against the ropes, he's usually dead in the watter. For all his boxing skills, Robinson is more of a "fighter" than a "boxer". Not saying he couldn't box from the outside, just that he prefered a two fisted attack. Other tall boxers used this to secuess. De La Hoya and the other Sugar Ray Leonard come to mind. Because of their speed and skills it's a very effective style, but it's not a perfect style. It also will allow Maywether to do what he dose best, counter punch. This fight will be decided on the ropes. Both boxers are better off center ring. As much as mayweather is a master at fighting off the ropes being center ring is where he is most effective with his counters and his own boxing skills. Center ring will give Robinson more opitions. Most importantly the option to use his boxing rather than his fighting. In the end this fight will go a long way in answering which is better speed or timing. "Boxing" Robinson beats Mayweather, but Mayweather beats "fighting" Robinson.
This is hardly a fair fight, and not because I find Mayweather to be that far behind Robinson (although on a list he would be). Mayweather is not a natural WW and is fighting there at the tail end of his career, while it is SRR's premier weight division. SRR is to much for Floyd @ this weight IMHO, and controls this fight pretty easily...I think Floyd is good, quick and smart enough that he should survivie while losing a 9-3 perhaps 10-2 type of decision....Over 15 SRR could even stop him. To me this is akin to asking DLH to beat Monzon.
By the time Floyd was in his mid/late 20's he was generally entering the ring at 140+. Robinson's the bigger man, obviously, but it's not like there's a huge difference or anything. Leonard-Duran type situation, basically. 25 year old Robinson vs 25 year old Mayweather and it's probably only a matter of a few pounds. Floyd simply isn't in the same class.
Floyd would be overwhelmed. Too small, not powerful enough. Put 10 natural pounds of muscle on him without slowing him down, make his arms a bit longer and make him a bit taller, we have a great fight. A real terrific clash of styles, with only the highest skill levels on display. As it stands, though, you have a big, lightning fast badass with gunshot power against a small lightning fast badass with stinging power. SRR KO 6, doesn't drop a round. He'd bully the **** out of Floyd.
