I agree. Shane was no "defensive wizard" but he wasn't as easy to hit in his prime as people make it seem.

He got hit flush a lot against de la Hoya in the first fight. I actually think that could have harmed him as a fighter going into a fight against someone as dangerous as a prime uninjured Forrest.

yeah since the forrest fight he just didn't have that aura or that movement, he stopped moving like he did, something went missing.

There isn't anymore seeing as he doesn't have one, Martinez made sure of that.

Having Jack Mosley giving you corner advice doesn't help. I like Jack but...he's lacking as a corner man.

Yeah I said Forrest & DLH found him often. Much props to Shane for taking those fights with Wright & Forrest but he didn't need to. Those fights put him in a bad place and after that he didn't look impressive against a shot Vargas. The last time he looked fast on his toes was in the rematch against a fossil in Vargas. The only thing he has going for him now is handspeed & power but his accuracy is nowhere near as good as it was. He used to throw short, compact punches but now lunges and gets wild(Mayorga fight for example). Shane might be shot now.

He wasn't the same I agree. Another sad thing is that Forrest never capitalized on his wins over Mosley. How Mosley got up from that hellacious right, I'll never know.

He was lost in the Wright, Forrest, and DLH 2 fights. It wasn't good for Shane when even his trainer couldn't give him inspiration in those important fights. I remember that sometimes Jack forgot which rounds were coming up next....not good for Shane. Even now, Richardson is great but he can't fight Shane's battles for him.

Shane maybe one of the best athletes modern boxing has seen. What he has left is a hangover of what he possessed as a youngster. He was badly managed as proved by the first Forrest fight where he was the pound for pound best fighter in the world and fighting in a sub theatre of Madison Square Garden. He never needed to fight Winky let alone Forrest.

This is what I hate about alot of modern boxing fans(there are things I hate about old-timer fans too like all the legends of the past pissed on any modern fighter in any matchup), they are lightning quick to drop labels such as glass jaw, over-rated, or exposed the moment a fighter is defeated or struggles. If P-Will had a true glass jaw, he would have been KOed long ago with the shots he has taken over the years. Just so happens he got caught sweet on the chin by the perfect shot and nightie-night.

I guess Gene Fullmer, Dick Tiger, and Roberto Duran's jaws are glass given the very similar KOs they suffered inspite of careers marked by iron chins. This revisionist bs after the fact is stupid. Anyone can be beat and Koed by the right shot, even fighters who normally take hard flush shots like drinking water. This KO loss by Williams might trick matchmakers into wanting to fight him now.

Shane is still a threat now but doesn't posess the atleticism & speed he used to. It goes downhill when athletes reach their mid-30's and without the proper fundamentals it's very hard to have longetivity.
