I dont see how racism can enter this thread when theyre a LOT of black people who are happy Taylor lost. He was a corporate controlled HBOBOY unlike the defiant Hopkins and the cool Wright. Ironically, Pavlik in the countdown show seemed the more "urban" of the two. Youngstown looks fcked up and he's rasing his daughter on his own and throwing tires around. I call him " 8 mile" Pavlik. Taylor is the protected one who has HBO all up his ass giving his wins as long as Taylor plays the simple country boy role. Lets get honest. Things arent always as simple as black and white.

C'mon, now posters are just fishing to try and start ****. Pavlik being white or Taylor being black had nothing to do with the fight, and not a damn thing to do with how either one was or will be ranked or viewed by fans. At least not in my book.

If you want to talk about doing a goose hunt for the 5 white people who might think that, go right ahead. That doesn't mean you've done more than find 5 idiots if you succeed.

What Pavlik does have is potential- but nobody ranks his accomplishments as being worthy of a top 10 MW ranking right now.

 

Golf is far more racist. To this day, there's still 'whites only' clubs. I don't think boxing has really been 'racist' in 20 years.

Hes good with tremendous heart and a great punch. Underated boxing ability. Time will tell how good he can be but he has potential.

 

Pavlik the greatest middleweight ever? He's going to do a heck of a lot more than this to prove he's better than Hopkins, Leonard, or Robinson. Still, he is off to a good start with wins against Taylor, Miranda, Zertuche, McKart and Zuniga. Only time will time how he will be ranked. Enough "white hope" garbage! This is why people get pissed with boxing! You don't hear talented white players in baseball, football, or basketball get called "white hopes". I love boxing because how incredibly global and multi-racial it has become. Stop trying to muck that up with this idiotic talk!

How do you know there are "a LOT of black people" who are happy Taylor lost? Do you really think there were tons of African Americans cheering for "The Ghost"? Pissed at JT for losing probably, but happy he lost, doubtful. There's plenty of blaming going on...it's Manny's fault, Jermain fought a stupid fight, he didn't throw enough, he backed up too much, he dropped his left too low...Everthing except maybe Pavlik is a better Boxer than was assumed and the pressure he applies makes fighters fight his fight.

Maybe you should visit the neighborhood in Little Rock where "the simple country boy" grew up. Might open your eyes. As you say, lets get honest. You're partially right in that things aren't as simple as they seem. Which is why you should know that you have no idea what you're talking about. Tell you what, I won't lecture you on class relations in urban Britain if you stop "educating" everyone about how "rural america" feels, simple country boys, and what black Americans are thinking etc...etc...

I recently posted a thread asking who were the five greatest natural boxers of the last 40 years. Posters of all shades responded and most agreed with my initial pick of Ali, Jones, Leonard, Whittaker and Mayweather.

I'm assuming the responding posters represented a fair cross-section of tis forums membership.

Some included Duran (not an unreasonable thought) and one (guess who ?) had Calzaghe on there (he's not racist I think, just a little over-enthusiastic about his boy).

But most agreed that the top guys are mostly black.

(Ironically, some time back, a White American football coach opined on American TV that blacks are generally better American Football players than whites. ---I don't remember his name as I don't follow that sport--- He was revilled as a racist and lost his position for stating something which anyone with half a brain knows to be true.

It's a fact (the reasons are another topic for a different debate) that Blacks dominate most major sports in the US, except for hockey. (Blacks make up 12-13% of the US population.)

This site has its fair share of racists, sexist and homophobes, not to mention just plain witless ****heads whose level of debate approaches that of the mentally ******ed. (I don't generally think of YOU as part of that group, despite some of your posts that might point otherwise. I generally enjoy MOST of your posts, even when you're talking complete shyte, because they're often humorous, and I occassionall respond in kind.)

Still, there are lots of serious, knowledgeable, posters who spark good debate and banter. And that more than makes up for the less enlightened, who will always be with us and who we just have to take in stride.
