Of course it's not transferable to a Calzaghe fight.

It would have been a completely different fight.

I keep telling you it would have been a very tough fight for both guys. That is a realistic opinion based upon logic.

I really shouldn't do this, but I'll give you one more reply.

    This content is protected

    - Why did Calzaghe fight Veit the second time?

    - Who was he supposed to fight instead of Veit?

    - What two LHW's, according to Joe, arranged for a fight between themselves that supposedly killed Joe's plans to move up to LHW at that time?

The reason why I have so little patience for people on here is because nobody knows anything. Nobody does any research. People just spout feelings with no support behind them. Just say things to fit whatever story they want to tell.

You seem smarter than many of the people on here.

Don't let yourself fall into mediocrity and fake narratives just because it supposedly supports your position.

Now that's it. This is the final response for now.

Calzaghe possessed the exact same attributes at 36, than what he did throughout his whole career.

He went into the fight with Bernard, coming off of a win against Kessler.

Along with his own father and Frank W, he said he was a more complete fighter at 35/36, than when he was younger. He said: "This older version of me would kick the a$$ of the version of me who'd fought Eubank 10 years ago"

At LHW, it was the first time he didn't have to literally starve himself to make weight.

I agree with you that it wouldn't have been a good match up for Andre. There's absolutely no doubt about that. But the same applies to Joe.

You can list those attributes of Joe's all day long. At the end of the day, you could have listed those same attributes going into fights with Reid, Kessler and Hopkins etc. The reality is: They were very competitive fights for him, and 2 of them were won by S/D's.

If you think those attributes that you've listed would have made it a forgone conclusion, then you have to be honest with yourself and ask why he didn't comfortably beat those other guys.

You can't claim that a fight with Ward wouldn't have been competitive, when:

    1. Joe had competitive fights against lesser opposition.

    2. Joe had competitive fights against guys who possessed similarities with Ward.

    3. Joe never fought or beat an elite fighter who was in his prime, throughout his entire career.

How can the exact same thing be said about Ward?

You need to apply a different analogy. It's cool though, it made me smile.

Look, at the end of the day, you're trying to convince us that Joe would have beaten Andre with absolute ease, in a fight that wouldn't even have been competitive.

You are entitled to your opinion. But again, people are going to fight you on it, because there is just no logical evidence to support it.

Once again, I will leave you with actual FACTS:

    1. Joe had competive fights against lesser opposition.

    2. Joe had competitive fights against opposition who shared similarities with Ward.

    3. Joe never beat an elite fighter who was prime, throughout his entire career.

I'll take those facts over your illogical opinions all day long.

If you want to resume the debate at any point in the future, just bump the thread and I'll gladly oblige you.

    Cheers.

since I made the point first and you then made a subsequent post agreeing with me, you will find the incontestable truth is that YOU posted to support me, and it would be impossible for you to pretend that the reverse was true, due to the way time runs only forward. This is as plain as consequence follows cause and 1pm follows 12pm. There is no way to argue against this, but it is fun to see you try.

I thank you for your continued support everytime you reply to prove your point... you simply prove my original one.

I agree here... Would likely be an ugly and close fight reminiscent of the Hopkins one, don't give a clear advantage to either man...

I don't need to do any homework.

Joe fought Veit for a second time because the WBO enforced him as a mandatory.

The questions you need to be asking, are:

    1. Why was an elite fighter like Joe Calzaghe still defending a lightly regarded title at that stage of his career?

    2. Why was he starving himself to defend a belt from an organisation who made him fight a C class fighter, one who he'd already beaten in a single round, just a few years earlier?

    3. Why was he defending a belt from an organisation who moved a guy up their rankings, after he'd DIED?

Who was he supposed to fight instead of Veit? How about somebody of relevance?

Forget the 2 LHW's who arranged a fight between themselves, Joe should have been at LHW years before 2008, instead of killing himself to make weight to fight guys like Mkrtchyan in his 30's.

I agree with you, many people on here don't do any research. But I am not one of them.

Just for the record, I think you're a good poster and I enjoy reading your posts.

I have only challenged your opinions with facts and logic. I would also challenge anybody who thinks that Andre would have beaten Joe with absolute ease. As great as Andre is, he's never fought anyone like Joe, who possessed those unique attributes. It would have been an extremely tough proposition for him to have overcome.

    I've really enjoyed debating you.

Go and find something fresh to sink your teeth into, and again, if you want to resume the debate at any point, just hit me up. I'm not going anywhere.

    Cheers.

So, the "Joe avoids going to LHW so he can fight Veit again for no reason" put-down isn't going to stick in this case.

Calzaghe wanted to move up to fight for a LHW belt against a top opponent, he was stymied, and he probably wanted to keep his WBO SMW belt as his fallback option. Veit was the mandatory, and Joe even tried to get some more action in before fighting Veit again but Team Veit blocked that potential bout with Magee.

Of course, Calzaghe would eventually move to LHW at the end of his career. But had he moved up before fighting Veit the second time, then we never get to see the Lacy masterclass bout that really put Joe on the map for many fight fans.

In the end, Calz didn't get his LHW belt but he definitely got the respect and recognition he had been seeking.

That's fair. I should have said "naturally longer" as regards height and reach. But you're probably right about frame overall.
