hop knew he would knockdown calzaghe in round 1, and keep him down, so to save joe the humilation of losing by ko1 the first time he stepped up, he waited till he turned 40something. i
I thought you'd gone? Ha! I respect your points above, but we have to note the following: Again, a fighter of Joe's talents should never have been holding the WBO belt when he was told he had to fight Veit again. That was an insult to Joe. Joe's fights with Glen Johnson were always going to be fought at SMW. Joe would never have fought Tarver. He wasn't interested. He wrote in his autobiography that he never rated him as he was only famous for beating a faded version of Roy. Joe never wanted to move up to fight a top LHW. If he'd have been serious, he'd have done it when he found himself at a dead end at SMW. Whilst it's true that he'd have missed Lacy had he have moved up, it's possible that he'd have had more recognition by being a 2 weight champion, where he could have targeted the likes of: Tarver, Johnson, Hopkins (earlier) and Dawson etc.

I'm going to give you a D for your homework. You have the enthusiasm, but you need to try harder. 1. Again, everytime he was scheduled to fight Johnson, it was to be at SMW. 2. Again, he wasn't interested in Tarver. He said in his autobiography that he never rated him, as his claim to fame was beating a shot version of Roy. 3. It states in your link that his priority was breaking the record of British title defences with his WBO belt. Tarver and Johnson agreeing to fight did not stop Joe from moving up to LHW. Joe stopped himself from moving up. Before he fought Mkrtchyan, he said he knew he needed to move up as there was nothing else on the horizon. The year before, he stated that if his situation at SMW hadn't changed within 6 months, he'd seriously consider moving up to fight Dariusz Michalczewski. What happened? Nothing. He stayed at SMW to fight: Mitchell, Mkrtchyan, Salem and Veit. Even before Roy had lost to Tarver, Joe was killing himself to make SMW in order to fight: Veit, McIntyre, Pudwell and Jiminez. He wouldn't raise his profile in the U.S. by fighting there and moving up to LHW to try and impress and move up the rankings. Only in 2008 did he move up for the final 2 fights of his career. And his last one against Roy, was again, after he'd said that a fight was pointless due to Roy having been shot since 2004. It wasn't boxing politics that stopped Joe from moving up. It was a lack of desire that stopped him. He was more than content to rack up those 21 defences of his lightly regarded WBO belt. Joe was a great fighter, but his ambition never matched his talent.
The majority had spoken again. Calzaghe by a landslide! Lets do another poll again when Ward beats Bellew or Joshua lol
Wards best win to date at 168 was against a.older version of Kessler, a former victim of Calzaghe. You claim Joe had fought an old Eubank, he was 32....was he really that far removed from his prime. You claim Calzaghe fought in a weak 168, well what makes the division so stacked when Ward was there? It wasn't, it was just as "weak" as the one JC ruled. Finally if anyone should have been at 175 it was the guy who won gold in the Olympics. 175 was awful when Calzaghe was champ at 168, the fact Glen Johnson was champion just proves my point.
Ward's biggest career wins - Kessler, Abraham, Froch, Kovalev: slow fighters. He's never beaten speed. Kovalev was spearing him easy with his jab and right hand both fights. I don't put much in the Dawson fight as he was a drained zombie (and clearly not fast) Honestly, Calzaghe eats his lunch. Anybody being outboxed by a slow, basic 1-2 fighter like Kov simply couldn't handle prime Calzaghe.
116-112 is a comfortable margin, that's the way I think it would have gone. And because I would just like him to go away, seems self-explanatory.
Calzaghe was so much better than SOB, but SOB would either not fight him or own the judges, referee, boxing commission, etc., SOB would land to the testicles all night..................still Calzaghe makes a fool out of SOB!!!
