Looks like the Calzaghe's have it. I agree prime Ward versus prime Calzaghe (not the going on 37 year old Calzaghe that still beat Hopkins) Calzaghe wins by a comfortable margin.

Have to admit I was expecting more "Just wish Ward would go away" votes.

Calzaghe was more of a pure fighter and I think stronger than Ward. At 175 I am not sure, but 168 I pick Joe.

Ward has immense physical strength. He threw Froch around like a rag doll and matched the bigger Kovalev.

When did Calzaghe display superior strength ?

Joe was never outpunched or pushed around himself. Some strong guys don't push guys around. Hagler was strong, but you never saw Hagler pushing guys because he thought if you push them then you waste energy. It isn't about proving who is stronger, it is about conserving energy and landing effective punches..

Calzaghe was man handled and went life and death with Bika.

If you're un biased this is a no brainer. Ward's best asset besides his ring IQ, is taking away his opponents best weapon. Joe's best weapon was his unorthodox fighting style and rhythm. Once Ward times that (4th round at worst) it's body shot after body ****. We're saying Prime Ward, so one with a good right hand. Prime Calzaghe, but Ward's an all timer. He's also known for taking zero's and takes Joe's pretty handily.

I don't even like Ward and I can't believe at the poll imbalance on here. IRL, Ward would go into the match as the slight favorite. I'd be rooting for Calzaghe, but expecting a Ward win.

    Easy Calzaghe win.

    Ward has nothing for him.

    lol

Ward deserves his respect. Despite the controversial Kovalev fights.

To challenge Calzaghe, you have to have power. Ward doesn't have power. And Calzaghe doesn't have body shot weakness like Kovalev does.

Calzaghe is the better athlete, he's faster, he has longer reach, he has a great workrate. He would absolutely own Ward, round after round. It would be a clinic.

Honestly, I don't know what Ward could do to win even a few rounds unless Calzahge took his foot off the gas.

It's just not there for Ward.

Ward has real limitations as a fighter. No power. Questionable chin. Short arms. Not a great workrate, I don't think (would have to look that up to be sure). He has compensated for those limits very well by fighting as he fights (in close, rough, avoid shoot-outs), but against Calzaghe all the weaknesses would come out and be exposed.

No one is better conditioned than Calzaghe. He's not going to fade like Kovalev. He's going to pitter-patter Ward to death and stay in range just picking Ward apart all fight, with no fear of Ward's power.

Hopkins fought cheap and dirty against Calzaghe and it didn't work. And that was Calzaghe moving up in weight against the dirty-fighting master who had power. Calzaghe landed more punches on Hopkins than anyone ever had up until that point in time. He toyed with Hopkins and gassed Hopkins out.

Calzaghe is at a different level than Ward is. The only person who probably ever beats or seriously threatens Calzaghe is Prime Roy. Besides that, I'm not sure anyone could get the job done. And I'm not even sure that Roy gets the job done.

    Ward? No.

ward desrves respect for beating prime best at LHW.
calzaghe earned his best respect from beating 2 40somethings at LHW.

I dont know how the difference can be made more evident for you, you'll just reverse the truth thats there.

You are quite completely wrong - he wasnt possesed with any decent strength. but he liked to mix it for sure, testing what he had. Thats why when he did mix it, he ended up drawing up level with a lot of weaker world class guys.
