The punch Ward landed hit Kovalev in the letter "B" printed on his trunks.

The letter B is well below his navel.

Instead of gauging where Kovalev's balls are in conjuction with the letter "B" printed on his trunks ... maybe Ward should've just punched ABOVE the waist like he's supposed to?

Look at the GIF that GK Box posted and you'll see why, at least in that particular instant, Ward hit him on the belt line. Just before Ward went to his belt line Kov hit him with a rabbit punch to the back of the head. I saw this in the 7th round and I'm glad GK Box posted this.

And before the rabbit punch by Kovalev was a jab to Ward's belt line. Those two punches by Kovalev started the fouling. Ward had every right to retailate as Kovalev's fouls went unpunished but Ward's response to being fouled was quite measured.

After the fight, Duva said she was "done" with Las Vegas.

This decision by the NSAC, while expected, should only cement that opinion by Duva.

Measured in that instance, but I think Ward knew from their first fight that Kov was sensitive to the body because he had good success. A lot of people are saying Kov gassed in this fight as well as the first one, but in both fights, I thought Ward did great body work which certainly contributed to Kov fading.

Absolutely. Kov gassing had a lot to do with not only Ward's punching, but the pace that Ward was setting. Fighting at such a high level was not only physically greuling but also mentally draining for Kovalev.

Yeah Kovalev looked hurt and tired, no doubt about that, that's not the point, he should have been counted not stopped.

Question, should the referee have stopped the fight when Klitschko dropped AJ? He looked far more hurt and unsteady than Kovalev did, he wasn't punching back, he was just surviving.

Because at that moment I would have bet nearly every penny I had Joshua was "done" but look what happened.

You just can't say with any certainty what would have happened.

No doubt, both guys are warriors, and to be honest I think fans of both fighters feel slighted because of, in my opinion, a poor stoppage. If your a Ward fan you feel the weird stoppage only prevented him from getting a more undebatable victory (and I say that with reserve) or if your a Kov fan you feel he lost due to fouling. But what the hell, if there were no controversy in sport boards like these would be a lot less interesting.

Agreed, and if you followed my posts over the last several days, I've alluded to that. That perhaps Weeks could have given him a standing 8 count, even though I know it's technically the rules (I get that) or maybe Weeks could have waited another moment until Kovalev was being held up by the ropes, then he could have given a count. So sure I would have liked to see a much less controversial stoppage. I thought Weeks probably could have let it go on for a few more punches, but on the other hand Kovalev was getting absolutely brutalized by these body punches, and Weeks saw those first two punches and how Kovalev was reacting, so for Kovalev's own safety, I can't really be too upset with the stoppage as Weeks was just looking out for Kovalev's well being. I mean Kovalev was not defending himself at all before that last punch was thrown. So the stoppage while I would have liked to see in a way Kovalev get more emphatically knocked out, I can't really criticize Weeks too much for him putting a stop to it right then and there. Kovalev was in all sorts of trouble and Weeks had seen enough.

Another thing to keep in mind is that in the post fight presser even Kovalev's trainer said his beef was with the ref not with Ward.

All I can say is if Golovkin loses to Canelo 80% of this board will be on suicide watch. Kovalev and Triple G taking L's in one year by the political minority. David Duke would slit his wrist vertically, Bannon would drink bleach, Metzger would... wait nobody cares outside of the small niche of hardcore boxing fans.
    Carry on.
