3-The two guys just meeting in center ring now and letting their hands fly, Sudo seemed to get rocked from a left hand then fired back, lands his own, body shot, Sudo backs up! A good body shot again from Ishimoto. Sudo back on the offensive charge, Ishimoto getting more and more success here and Sudo is taking more punishment, but it's a phonebooth brawl! Sudo looking tired and mentally like he's being beaten up as he walks to his corner. Great effort though
4-More toe-to-toe action, Ishimoto backing up, then Sudo backs up. Just a shame neither man has much power, as it seems likely to be action packed but a bit dramaless now, Sudo all heart and determination but doesn't have the firepower to get Ishimoto's respect. Ishimoto looks like he can hurt Sudo, but not with any regularity. More trading, Sudo trying to fight off the ropes. Ishimoto trying to box off the backfoot and find spaces for his counter shots. 4-0 Ishimoto...but Suda's effort cannot be questioned!
5-Sudo on the front foot, I think it's the only foot he has, Ishimoto struggling to create any space but finding a rare moment or two where he can work at range, Ishimoto looks knackered now! He's well up and Sudo lacks power but the tempo that Sudo has set is clearly getting to Ishimoto who's work rate in this round has dropped off a lot, despite that he does land some solid head shots as Sudo's approach slows down, Sudo unloading and looks like a determined MOFO! Ishimoto holds on and they both fall to the canvas
I had a feeling Sudo might steal that lol he was more active even though I probably would’ve scored it in favor of Ishimoto
6th and final round Sudo on the front foot, okay I'm officially a broken record, Ishimoto summoning all his energy and they are just like rock em sock em robots now with an insane back and forth of punching flying both ways, Ishimoto's shots look like little more than arm punches now, Sudo still lacks power but refuses to stop. Ishimoto looking exhausted with 80- seconds left, Sudo keeps the pressure on and another combination from him, more shots from Suda as Ishimoto tries firing back! If Suda didn't have Paulie Malignaggi power he'd have won here! Have Ishimoto winning 4-2, can see 3-3. Ishimoto started well but the pace REALLY got to him and he couldn't do much after about the midway point of round 4. Suda was fantastically fan friendly and all heart! Oh...Suda got the win! An upset and surprise!
Scores were 56-58, 55-59, 55-59 Can't understand the 55-59 cards at all...but hell he wanted that win so badly!
Time for Shawnlovestosk8! Shawn Oda (8-0, 7) v Masashi Wakita (8-7-2, 3) Oda won the Rookie of the Year a Lightweight not too long ago as a teenager, a bit of a prospect but rough around the edges
Oda is a stablemate of Daigo Higa and Yoshimitsu Kimura, 19 years old and a puncher. This might be one of the first times he's been in with a southpaw though (not checked, too lazy)
1-A quiet couple of minutes almost, Oda with a right, an a left hook, he's starting to turn it on and seemed to momentarily stun Wakita, another hook from Oda just misses. Slower pace than I expected....Oda round
I think they probably gave everything but the second to Sudo, his activity was always higher, even though most of the time he wasn’t landing clean at all
Oda is a lot of fun to watch but his defense could use a lot of work. It’ll still be fun to see how his career pans out though
2-Oda looking for opening and lands another power shot, Wakita has tasted the power a few times and is now trying to keep range and use his jab, Oda with a body shot, Wakita fires back, Oda rushes in and Wakita holds. Clear that Oda has little respect for Walkita but is struggling with the distance and connecting clean on a regular basis Coming in to this Wakita has faced the likes of Satoru Sugita, Naotoshi Nakatani and Spicy Matsushita, losing 4 of his last 6...has been stopped 3 times though...
3-Oda drops Wakita with a huge 1-2, Wakita up and Oda on the hunt! Wakita hasn't recovered and is down again! He keeeps getting up too early! Oda on the prowl and another body shot, a combination of them, Wakita fires back! We have a ****ing war! Towel comes in for Wakita and saves him! TKO3 That was a fun ending!
Oda is so athletic compared to the majority of prospects coming out of Japan. I was worried that could come off as slightly racist but here’s Oda himself crediting his father’s genetics lol “although he’s sometimes wild, he rarely looks in any trouble in the ring; instead he looks like the fight game is natural to him. Something that he has put down to his father’s genetics, with his father being an American and his mother being a Japanese.” https://thegruelingtruth.net/boxing/japanese-rookie-sensation-shawn-oda/
