Though alltime, I rank Holmes higher and would probably pick 1979 Holmes over any-year Tyson.

 

Tyson was a lot faster and more accurate than Shavers with vicious combos in conjunction with the aforementioned traits in addition to ATG level power. He was twice the hitter Shavers was. It isn't all brute force.

 

If you're trying to say "Klozoff, put that guy on your ignore list." I'm inclined to agree.

 

this, plus tyson beat holmes in the decade. holmes is better overall.

Absolute fantasy. Holmes was faded in 1983, let alone by the time Tyson fought him. Add to this he wasn't even in the shape he would find in latter bouts.

It's a testament to Holmes greatness that he could defeat decent fighters while so over the hill, yet some use it to try and prop up Tyson's almost meaningless (for head to head perspective) win over him.

Holmes was made for Tyson some say, yet Tyson was just as made for Holmes. Holmes mental strength and sheer will to win would have tested Tyson's fragile psyche and low level frustration boundary to the extreme. He would also tie Tyson up quite well.

It would be a great fight, one of the best heavyweight matches imaginable. I'd back Holmes narrowly, and he'd be about a 7-5 fave i reckon.

Tyson stopped Holmes himself , but it doesn't end with that : he also stopped Spinks , Berbick , Carl Williams , Jesse Ferguson whom had all given Holmes much more trouble .
He even stopped Pinklon Thomas & Tony Tubbs whom were avoided by Holmes . Against Marvis Frazier he didn't do any worse either .
Only vs 1 Evan Fields Holmes outdid Tyson .
And it's not like "prime" Berbick & Spinks would have gone more than 3 rounds vs Tyson .
