Tim Smith is a pretty good guy. I like him. However, Smith is biased. Nothing surprising there, we're all biased. Some just hide it better than others. This is what is usually referred to as 'professionalism.'

Smith's current whining in the New York Daily News will sound familiar to many ESB readers:

From the article: "Samuel Peter has heavy grudge vs. Vitali Klitschko"
    http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/more_sports/2008/10/07/2008-10-07_samuel_peter_has_heavy_grudge_vs_vitali_.html

Let me translate Smith's literary crying spell here. Translation #1:

Sam Peter isn't getting any respect. Sam Peter is tough for ripping the belt away from VK at the press conference. Sam Peter isn't getting any respect. I'm mad that VK gets to come back and fight Sam Peter right now. Sam Peter gets no respect. VK = Don King. Sam Peter must win to make things right in boxing, and you should root for him to do so, or else the Evil Klitschkos will ruin boxing.

That's a literal translation of what the petulant Timster is saying. Now, here's the meaning of the whole column in two sentences:

Vitali Klitschko is going to kick Sam Peter's ass, and that's not fair because I want The Sam Peter Myth to continue. And I sure as heck don't want The Myth to be stopped by one of the Klitschkos.

Smith says he likes the Klitschkos. Great. I like Tim Smith, too. But his entire column here is a joke, and a very transparent one at that. It's not about what is going to happen on Saturday, it's about what Smith wants to happen, and what he thinks should happen. Does he have the right to write this tripe? Yep, he does. And I have the right to call him out for it and let others know the silly game he's playing.

Smith knows boxing well. He knows Peter is made for Vitali. And he's so mad about that. So his entire column becomes a temper tantrum equating a former prison inmate (King) to a guy with a Ph.D. who's looking to make history on Saturday night by becomming one part of the only brother duo to ever hold the HW title at the same time.

Tim Smith is biased. Always has been. I'm not going to get into the nature of that bias, I'll leave that up to you to figure out for yourself. This column, though, is especially tedious and bemoaning, and I feel embarrassed for Smith that he typed it.

Tim is correct on all points.
Peter got screwed around by the WBC, who bent over backwards (and forwards) for Vitali.

    :hi:

Then again, I bet your brother could lift more than his brother, so maybe you are right after all.

BTW, You never did tell me how much your car is worth. :blood

I don't think Tim Smith is being biased. It is unfair to quit for three (3) tears and then comeback and jump right to top, but that's boxing for you. Peter wno the title and now they're telling him this fight is for the title he already has???. Bull****!!!

Sam Peter is a fat, rabbit punching ****. He shouldnt have had to fight Toney twice, because Toney won the first ****ing fight and he should have got his title shot and day in the sun against Maskeav. Instead a morbidly obese 30 something whose main claim to fame is looking good aginst a couple of glass jawed bums gets the belt.

I hope Klitchko rips fatties head off his shoulders and lands it in the lap of dickhead manager of his.

Best laugh of the day. Thanks, Torpedo. I didn't even make it through your whole post yet.

    :thumbsup:good:thumbsup

Yep, Toney won the first fight clearly. Notice how that fact didn't make it into Biased Tim's column?

Where's the outrage on that point, Tim?

    Right.

I agree on some points here:

    1) Sam has been screwed by the WBC
    2) Wlad and Vit will not fight each other
    3) The champion emeritus rule is pretty dumb.

However, it is not VitKlit's fault that the WBC gave him that status. Anyone who was offered that status would take it in a heart beat.

VitKlit winning, is IMO bad for boxing. We need to unify titles now. We do not need VitKlit winning, retiring, then putting the belt back into the WBC mess. Wlad took a positive step in fighting Iggy. After Povetkin, he will probably face Valuev or Peter (if he wins) to unify another title. This is what we need.

There shouldn't have been a rematch with Toney, period. Other than that, the scamster has been treated fine. If not Brittely, who else would Cheater be defending the title against??

The WBC did make some stupid rules up that work in Vitali's favor, that's no doubt.

Then again, I really don't want to complain, because it's a really good fight at HW. There really aren't any good contenders right now anyhow, although I think now that Gomez beat Virchis so easily, we have another qualified contender.

Without VitKlit, Peter could face Valuev to Unify. Now he will have to face Gomez if he beats VitKlit.

Peter will never ever unify. Peter couldn't beat Valuev anyway. Valuev would jab his head off for 12 rounds and win a UD.

Valuev has already beaten better fighters than Peter. Ruiz would beat Peter to a boring UD. I believe Chagaev would also UD Peter with no issues.
