Duco Events and Top Rank promotions have agreed to co-promote Joseph Parker following this weekend's WBO world title fight. Top Rank's chief executive, Bob Arum, is in New Zealand for the Parker-Ruiz fight on Saturday and agreed to promote Parker throughout the USA and China while Duco, who have promoted Parker for the majority of his professional boxing career, look after the Australasian market.
Thanks for posting! I'm happy about this, always felt that Joe would eventually need a bigger promoter for the worldwide market.
The other good thing about this is that Parker and Ruiz Jr are the only two well-known HWs in the Top Rank stable now. So if Parker wins, he'll be Top Rank's #1 HW star. If JP had signed with Al (Wilder) or Matchroom (AJ), it'd be completely different.
I'm a Brit, but to be honest my HW focus will be the other side of the world this weekend. Parker vs Ruiz is a far better match-up. Watched the Parker documentary for this fight a couple of days ago and he comes across likeable and real....
Abel Sanchez : "I think we have two guys that are the future of the heavyweight division. I think we have two guys who are finally going to show us what heavyweights are actually supposed to fight like, not the wrestling that we have been getting for the last 10-12 years," Sanchez said in a not so subtle attack on the methods of the Klitschko brothers and Tyson Fury. "We are going to have the kind of fight where they are going to hit each other, hurt each other. That's the way it should be. It's evenly matched."
Ok. Here´s my take on the fight. I think it was a gameplan executed well, though at times too well. Ok we get it, Barry wanted Parker to stay on the outside but it´s how he got to the outside which dissapointed me. Like he wandered away from Ruiz instead of sharply getting in and out of the pocket. Hence, we always see these looping hooks and right crosses tagging a ´lazy to retreat´, Joe Parker. Also Parker had great success when tying Andy up. Ok, it´s not pretty to watch but it negates the attack, leaning on the opponent, using up some time. He seemed to on accident tie him up, as opposed to implementing as a strategy. Its 101 stuff. Also the performance was bereft of any sort of feigning, so predictable from Parker. He had his range early on so why not throw the odd feign and then go to the body and either get outta there snappy or straight in there to tie up. So frustrating. Its like, ´ok it kind WORKS SO iM NOT GONNA STRAY FROM THE PLAN´...I think it was too close not to change it up for a round and maybe implement a few 1,2s, bob and weave and uppercut..Im no expert but it just wasnt a judicious performance. I think tonight is the best Andy we´ll see. But Parker could have made it so much harder for himself. He needs to use his intuition a biot more, or look to someone else to train him. I think hes a bit encumberd with barry. Like seriously, where was the feign upstairs and hit the body from the quickest heavyweight on a plodding shorter body. So 1 dimensional. Worrying signs... Anyway...congrats, afterall
Good analysis. I thought Parker needed to throw a lot more on the outside, in and out quickly. I'd also like to see Parker switch to another trainer, let's say JDJ might be right for his style.
Cheers mate. As i said im no expert but its frustrating from a boxing fan POV to see Parker fight. Like, he´s not getting what does and doesnt work. Take david Haye. He changes his centre of gravity, his defence fliches are urgent and fast twitch. He can read the stae of the fight to perfecttion. Today showed a lack of judgement. Like he needs to get block out barking Barry for a round or two and strategise himself.
Also, for crying out loud, he needs to use a shell defence every once in a while, not always shy away and turn his head from punches.
