Does any one remember Oba Carr? He dropped Trinidad, got credit for a silly knockdown against Quartey as well. He was also boxing really well against Oscar before he got caught in the 11th.

How would he have done against mid-level champs from other eras like Milton McCory or Benny Paret.

A good boxer, but i don't think he was ever good enough to be an estlablished welterweight champion in any era.

He was a good Welterweight and Im sure he couldve won a belt in a lesser era. He wouldnt have dominated any era but probably would hold a strap today.

I always liked Oba. He was unfortunate in that he boxed in a very deep era.

I think Oba burnt himself out with too many tough fights, because after he lost to Oscar he lost to Rafael Pineda and never fought at a world class level again.

His mistake is he left KRONk.Under Steward he would have had different results. He also turned pro at 18 and was matched up pretty hard.

The future of the Kronk who could not live up to the history/hype. Many were tipping him as a future superstar in the early 90s. And although he did not crash and burn as bad as some who were given such hype, he had a good career, he was still no superstar. Which was a shame, as he had the tools to be more than he was.

Oba was a mainstay on USA Tuesday Night fights. It wasn't that long ago that I re-watched his match with Livingstone Bramble. That was the first time I thought that I had stopped buying into the hype -- but he had a lot of skills.
